DPM Prawit expresses regret over brutal attack on Ja New

Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan has expressed regret over the brutal attack on political activist Sirawith Seritiwat, or Ja New, and ordered the national police chief, Pol Gen Chakthip Chaijinda, to hold an urgent meeting with the metropolitan police commissioner to discuss the incident and to intensify efforts to track down the perpetrators, as well as the mastermind behind the assault if there is one.

Defence Ministry spokesman Lt-Gen Kongcheep Tantrawanich said today that security authorities have not been idle since the attack, as has been claimed. He maintained that both the military and the police do not tolerate or sanction the use of violence by their men or others, especially violence directed against those who share opposing political views.

He added that authorities have been instructed to provide security for political activists and to periodically report progress of the investigation into Ja New’s case to avoid political exploitation of the victim.

Like I said in another thread the Junta wouldn't want to be handing the opposition a martyr and might really be trying to stop these attacks as they would have enough headaches as it is.Politically  it's quite embarrassing and much loss of face and all that.Remember Gandhi was shot by one of his own.

Yea right...

You might be right and the junta is not directly responsible. However they are 100% repsonsible for the climate in which such attacks are possible. It is time for them to completely step down, including getting rid of any silly masterplans.

New elections should be scheduled as soon as possible, with the senate being subject to election as well. The EC should be disbanded and replaced by people that are truly impartial. In short, everything they illegally did should be reverted, the 1997 constitution re-instated and Prayuth and Co put on trial.

Yes, my friend, Sjaak327: I, too, have marvellous, fantastical, wildly improbable fantasy dreams from time to time.

It helps to keep us going - as the grim reality is sometimes just too horrid to contemplate, isn't it?!

(Sorry. Just kidding you!).

I think you will find this is not a dream, it will happen, I predict within the next two years, they have created a mess that is simply impossible to maintain. They just haven't got the memo yet.

This fat toad has miraculous powers, beware, he can concentrate BS while keeping it liquid... Better just give a formal blah-blah and stay out of it instead of saying things the biggest dumbass in the country (and considering the number having voted for PPRP, there are some millions of) bloody well knows to be untrue. On top of it, I'd eat my best hat without salt when this ugly liar wouldn't know quite well who the people behind this (IMO most stupid) attack are).

Provide relevant proof or remain silent. I am sure you have no proof. How much are you paid to write this nonsense ?

The arrogance, greed, and hypocrisy of these Junta thugs is absolutely staggering. They've already got the country at gunpoint, and their bank accounts are beyond overflowing....what more do they want?

Same as any jail house boss... To maintain the fear of what happens to anyone who speaks out against them

The thugs who attack any activists do so because they are either part of those in control or feel empowered by those who are in control.

The current political environment is dominated by those who constantly ram home 'Thainess' as being a love of country, monarchy and the armed forces no matter what and those who oppose or disagree in any way are somehow deemed to be unworthy, not Thai or even liable to execution.

I know what you mean, FarFlungFalang.

But in fact the junta have seized upon the ENTIRE Thai people as their martyr.

They really don't care about one individual.

Who will move against them? Who has moved against them - over five long years?

When you have absolute power and have only a moral black hole in the place where your heart should be - you can and will do anything; to hell with the little ripple of impotent consequences.

Mind you: ripples can expand and grow ...

That might be the case in a more civilised country. However, anyone with any knowledge of Thai politics, can point to many killings (sometimes personal sometimes political) perpetrated on the orders of senior military, police and government figures. They don't care so there is no embarrassment. Thailand has 'martyrs' galore and nobody here cares. Pass the som tam.

Of course I might be wrong and I do hope the ripples reverberate but not the echoes of bullets, and like I said in the other thread if it has come from higher levels then their higher levels must have high levels of low level intelligence because their overconfidence will help their inevitable demise.Ao phet mai?

Oh they got the memo alright but they printed it then shredded it and now have convinced themselves that the problem will go away as ordered.

LOL.

The military and friends have had effective immunity from prosecution or other any negative consequences since 1946. They have been involved in the elimination of political opponents and a number of massacres along the way. Their demise is by no means inevitable (well, not in my lifetime). The various cliques within the military do tend to push each other aside every now and again.

Indeed it is but my humble opinion and I hope that I'm proved correct especially in your life time for that would be nice. It's true that the road to freedom has already been well and truly paved with the lives of the valiant and as slow as the bus I once took from the GPO in Bangkok to Khao San Rd that took 4 hours a trip I could have walked in 45 minutes! It is a slow game of chess they play without a clock and with what seems like a desperation to avoid freshly paving the road to freedom.
