Video: Police think this kind of road rage is only worth a fine

Caption: He chased them and attacked them

A road rage incident in Chonburi saw a thug wielding a baseball bat threaten a man and his sick mother in a pick-up.

The mother was terrorized and the vehicle suffered damage in the unprovoked attack.

Yet the Chonburi police consider it only worth a fine. They have asked the driver to pop in and see them.

Hatdaporn Soisalap, 31, recorded the incident on his phone. He told the Chonburi police that he had hooted a man in a Toyota Yaris who had been dawdling at a green light.

The Yaris man was incensed and chased him to an area outside a school where he tried to open the pick-up door.

The Yaris man then followed him to near an intersection when there was a traffic hold up and he got out with a baseball bat and started smashing up the pick-up.

He eventually fled the scene but police have the licence plate number.

Hatdaporn was taking his mum - a heart patient - to see the doctor.

Pol Col Atinana Nuchanarot had been given the video footage.

Yet he said this was only an offence worth a fine. So the police have issued a summons.

If he doesn't turn up, they will make an effort to arrest him.

A fine only of course as beating people with baseball bats is actual within the political arena of Thailand nowadays so threatening to in this case is only a minor misdemeanor obviously in the eyes of the RTP.

When the junta does nothing to stop thugs beating political opponents with baseball ball bats , threatening to use one against the person is merely following that example.

Wait 'till lottery sellers threaten you with one for refusing to pay more than 80 baht per ticket,  then the police will act - selling knock off base ball bats to the ticket vendors  ????????????

Also, some words don't seem to translate well in English language publications published in Thailand.

Baseball Bat

Baton or 'Billy Club'

Heck, I own a half a dozen machetes in various lengths myself.  It's a jungle out there - but!  I don't pack one in my car.  I do understand Thai weapons laws.  If you want to carry a weapon, carry a, errrr, Thai 'baseball bat.'  Small fine, no jail time.

if the little s*** did that to my car I would beat him to a pulp. They are all heroes when there is a car door between them and you, but when you get out it is a different story. Then again, being a Farang it would be my fault i suppose and I would get a lot more than just a small fine.

And a .44 magnum is worth a fine that is a bit steeper

Yeah, you can't shoot people here, not even in your own home. But it doesn't mean people don't have guns. Remember the guy chased down by a pack of teenagers and young adults, surrounded, and then fire his gun? Killed an attacker. He's in jail.  In the US the defense is disparate force - multiple attackers and imminent fear for your life or the life of an innocent bystander, his wife in this case.  Didn't matter.  I've seen someone dragged out of their car and killed by a mob in Chiang Mai.  You can't defend yourself without going to jail.  Shoot someone in your own home - same, same - no "Castle Doctrine."  If you defend yourself with lethal force - than you live, but in jail. Well, depending on how rich you are. What's your option?  Some people choose life and jail.  Some people don't.  The uber-wealthy never go to jail as they can buy "justice."

It's not 'good' or 'bad', it's just reality.  Acknowledge it and act accordingly.

Of course you would. 500 THB fine for you.

500 THB fine for all the other Thais who stop and join in fray to stop the evil farang from assaulting the helpless Thai.

It the 50,000 of 500,000 THB hospital bill or the $30K air-evac back to the home-country that's the killer.
