Hi to you all,

Is it true that Laos only allows one border-run a year? How about Cambodia? One of my friends has been to Cambodia once. Can he go back for another 60-days visa?

Thank you.

If you are talking about a border run, Laos doesn't care how many times you go. Neither does Cambodia. Thailand will only allow 2 visa exempt land entries per calendar year.

If you are talking about going to the Embassy in Vientiane and applying for a tourist visa, then the latest report is one tourist visa per passport from Vientiane.

Your post is not very clear. Please clarify what you mean. Also state your nationality as it makes a big difference.

That apparently one was some odd case that was reported. No other report of it happening.

No mention of it on the website of a company that does visa runs to there.

Entering Thailand at a land border without a visa (visa exempt entry)

Restricted to two entries per calendar year. It does not matter which border crossing you are using. The two visa exempt entries limit applies collectively to all land crossings. This limit does not apply to arriving in Thailand by air. When arriving by air, it is up to the discretion of the immigration officials how many visa exempt entries you can be given.

Entering Thailand at a land border with a valid unexpired visa

No limit.

Applying for a visa at an embassy/consulate

Each embassy and consulate has its own rules and limits with respect to issuing visas. The rules/limits are not always clear, but you should do your best to acquaint yourself with recent experience of those applying for visas at the embassy/consulate you are intending to visit.

Thanks, I'll disregard that for now then.

I have many back to back tourist visas in Vientiane. My last one was actually to Yangon Myanmar.

I than got a new passport fron my embassy in Bangkok.

So now I have a brand new Canadian passport issued in Bangkok.

I will be going to Vientiane next month to apply for a tourist visa in the new passport.

Has anyone had any experience or had an issue with getting Thai visas with a passport (Canadian) that has been issued in Thailand.

Or will my new passport do me for just about as many visa runs an such as my last passport.

It is unlikely to be a problem in your case. What I speculate can happen is this. If your last entry into Thailand on the old passport was at Nong Khai, this is visible in the new passport because the entry/exit stamps from your last entry are transferred. If the Vientiane embassy notices this, I believe they can check back to see if you were issued a visa by them just before that last entry into Thailand. If they see you were, maybe they will decide to make an issue out of it. On the other hand, in the past, some have reported that consular officials in Vientiane have specifically indicated that they do not care about this.
