How to transfer visa stamp to second passport?

Hi there,

 

I have 2 British passports as I travel a lot on business. My Thai work visa is in my first passport which is now full. I want to transfer my Thai work visa to my other passport. At Immigration they have told me I need a letter from the British Embassy in Bangkok to "validate" the second passport. On the British Embassy website I can't find an option to do this. Can anyone tell me where and how I can get this letter?

Call the embassy and they will tell you how to do it.

VFS in the Trendy building issue the letter, but as far as I know only for those who have received a new passport.

 

I'm in exactly the same position, I no longer travel enough to need two passports and the one with my work extension is about to expire, the second is good to 2024.

 

My work lady thinks she can "persuade" immigration to do the transfer, evidently lubrication will be required but hopefully less than a new passport.

 

I'll report back when she's tried.

But the OP doesn't want to transfer his stamps to a replacement passport, he wants to transfer them from one valid passport to his second valid passport. I don't think Thai Immigration will do that.

That page has contact info for the embassy as well.

He may to have to his the passport with the extension canceled in it in order to have the stamps transfered.

If you still require 2 passports just get the new one to replace the full one (cancel) and transfer to it with standard letter.

US Embassy always provides such a letter with replacement passport.  To transfer extension and notation of visa information you would visit office that issued the extension of stay.  If just on a visa entry believe it can still normally be done at exit point.

In my case it would be a NEW visa from Savannakhet Laos. Can i have it transfer at the border when i exit or enter again ?

If you only have a entry from a visa you can have the stamps transferred when you leave the country.

If your visa is still valid you would show both passports on entry to use the visa in your old passport to use it for entry.

So if i understand correct i would take both passports when crossing the border until the latest visa expires and when i return to Laos in a year for a NEW visa they would place it in the NEW passport?

Yes

You will only need to to show both passports on entry to the country to use the visa in the old passport until your visa expires. Then when you get a new visa in the new passport that would be the only one you need.

Dear All,

 

Many thanks for all your suggestions. I see from ubonjoe's link that the British Embassy offers the Standard Letter at reception for collection. I will get someone to pick up a copy on Friday and will try to get Immigration to transfer the stamp without the first passport being cancelled.

 

Otherwise as lopburi3 suggests, I will have to transfer the stamp to the second passport and cancel then first passport and order another new passport..........expensive and a pain but pretty certainly possible.
