Hi All

Had a similar car to this in the UK, great in the summer. Would I have one in LOS? no I wouldn't. No air conditioning for starters, not practical at all as an only car, and with the Thai driving style I wouldnt feel very safe with my ass only 6inches from the floor.

Performance was pretty stunning, but then if ytour stuck in traffic doing 10km/hr it doesn't really matter whats under the bonnet.

I'd rather buy a big bike out here than go back to a seven type sports car.

Hi to all those Westfield Sportscars enthusiasts and those of you desiring wheels of a different nature.

I would like to introduce myself; I am Mr Julian Dobrijevic the official Importer/supplier of Genuine Westfield Sports Cars living right here in Thailand.

Firstly I completely agree with you all in the scene, these cars are no way ever intended as practical forms of motoring, i.e. daily commuters, popping to the local shops for your groceries etc. They are 100% driving machines intended for the purposes of enjoying your every input behind the wheel, whether that be racing or just out for a blast in the country side letting off steam, or just a quiet pleasant cruise with the other half accompanying you on your romantic ride out, or is that stretching it a bit far? Probably…

But they do very much reward you in so many ways that generally find people once they come to own one, working out ways to incorporate the use of the Westfield more in their daily lives. I speak from personal experience and have witnessed owners driving in all conditions even if I would not venture out myself for not wanting to clean the car upon my return.

Now seriously to all of you, these cars if you have never driven one, or seen one in person, there is something very special about them, even if you have no interest in driving, racing or not really a motor head of any description, you will find yourself if witnessing one of these cars driving past you, saying to yourselves, WOW! Is usually the first word that springs to mind, then “What Was That”? and “That’s Orsome”. But I defy any one should they have the opportunity to drive/passenger in one of these cars to not return back to base camp with one of the Biggest Grins on their faces they have had in a long time. It really does happen, not many cars can do that for you, but of course its what ever flips your boat at the end of the day, we’re not shy to say, Westfield’s flip our boats all day long every day!

Now regarding the main uses for a Westfield Sportscar, the first has to be Track Days, Motor Sport of course and the Bira International racing circuit outside pattaya is very easy to find and get to. Contact us if your not sure where it is, or just do a search on the web. There is of course one of two tracks around Bangkok too, and another one going to be built in the not to distant future we are told, although we do not know the precise location yet, but we will try to find out if anyone want to know.

Now these cars can cope with any road surface of course the smother the better, but they can cope with what Thailand has to offer, pothole and all, but at the end of the day, you tend to take these cars on the best of the roads available to you, not go and find the worst, I am a very keen fast safe road driver, and used to race Westfield’s back home in the UK.

Now if I am happy to drive a Westfield in Thailand and sink all my money into getting these cars here, I’m pretty sure some of you guys will also be happy behind the wheel whether that be on the track or on the road, you will have much more fun than none at all that’s for sure.

Now don’t forget, Thailand is a developing Country as we all know and maybe a little on the slow side for some, as it is far from perfect and may never be but that’s surely not a bad thing.

Now its early days for true sports cars and track race cars, but the interest and availability is growing each year and the desire to have great sportscars will continue to grow and we hope that is in the direction of Westfield Sportscars providing the best bang for your money.

Don’t be put off by the fact Westfield’s are new to Thailand they are not new to the rest of the world with world dealers such as ourselves selling cars from nearly all parts of the world, both in equally hot or even hotter countries can you believe than Thailand and yes of course the colder countries too.

They are not complicated cars to own, very easy to work on of course depending on your application, but all parts for these cars are readily available. Even if we have to import parts or custom make them if not available in Thailand, you will be supported owning these cars here, BY US! we hope! or of course your local professional garage of your choice. There are some around.

Yes it is probably stretching it.. I dont think my GF would ever get in one the second time !!!

I got ready to buy my first all-new car in 1964, and Lotus had just come out with the Seven (7) - no doors, no windows, pretty much like the Westfield. Then it had an Austin engine similar to the Austin-Healey Sprite, maybe 40 or 48 horsepower. Eventually the Super 7 had the Cosworth engine, then with twin cams and the whole race kit. Chatterham is a main name now for the type.

I was serious about the Lotus 7, but didn't buy it. Darn! Bought a Corvair Spyder convertible instead. Then came something called the Mustang...

There is a company in Pattaya importing those Westfields into Thailand. They advertise them on www.bahtsold.com. Are the prices "pleasing" to the starter of this thread, 1.5 mil. does not appeal to me at all. And there are other ways to drive a car like that and have it registered for less than half that price. To me it could only serve as a second toy car, because apart from beach locations where there is always a bit of breeze, inland one would only be able to drive it comfortably from november to march.

I am reading your comments with great interest and would love to hear which car anyone would suggest that compares anywhere near to the build and performance quality including registration for less than half the starting price for a brand new hand built Westfield Sports Car.

There are of course cheaper alternatives to everything in life, but you usually always get what you pay for which I’m sure you will agree with. Westfield Sportscars are at the top of the British Kit car Market, there are a lot of cheaper seven alternatives, but your be hard pushed to find someone not agreeing that a Westfield Sports Cars is the No. 1 Choice.

Regarding suitability for the roads, have any of you heard of a company called “Fluke Motorsport”, do a search on the web, there site even includes video footage of them in action.

They up to recently rallied a Westfield Sportscars and did pretty well at it I recall, if you can also bear in mind the early Westfield’s which can still be configured in that way today, I.E. “live rear axel” were based a lot on the mark 1 mark 11 Ford Escort and correct me if I’m wrong which im sure many will given half the chance, were they not pretty handy at all forms of rallying discipline’s and winning quite a lot too. They are still to this day, very successful rally cars.

The Westfield is NOT intended for rallying of course, and we are not intending to supply them for this purpose, but it is certainly possible for the ride height to be raised enough and taken to the dirt if that’s what you want to do with them.

We will be as standard, configuring the cars for good ground clearance and maximum comfort/performance in mind for general allround road use in Thailand, its down to the driver how he/she wants their car to be set up and we will cater for your needs. The cars can range from super comfy for a sportscar or very firm more suited to the race track, the suspension is fully adjustable both in ride height and in stiffness. There is also a range of seats for the cars, again adding to the comfort or performance of the car.

Now correct me if I am wrong, do the following styles/types of transport not require suitable road surfaces to travel on?

Sports Bikes, Example - Yamaha R1’s, Honda CBR RR’s, Ducati’s, Suzuki GSXR’s etc, they need pretty good road surfaces to enjoy their intended use and I am also a keen rider and enjoy taking my chosen bike, a CBR RR out in the Country side for a moderate paced excursion and managing to find good smooth roads missing any obstacles in my path.

Sports Cars, example - Porsche 911’s, Ferrari’s, Lamborghini’s, Aston Martin’s, these are all very high end expensive sports cars low to the ground and can all be found in daily use on Thailand’s road’s.

At the end of the day, we are not making any of you buy our cars or suggesting it will improve/enhance your image, we are merely offering them to the people that want one, there is plenty of choice out there, if an open top High Performance British Sports Car such as a Westfield, which can embarrass most super cars is not your thing, don’t worry we are not offended, but we can assure you if driving is really your thing, and good value for performance is what your after, then please get in touch, we will be happy to hear from you offering you want you need.

Say a Car engined one over a busa or bike sourced engine ?? Something like a Sport 2000 ???

I am sure options vary but to sort the Thai registration taxes, where does it ballpark ?? Finished car on road.

Dealing with the Heat, Rain, owning a Westfield in Thailand.

1. Dont drive it in the rain

2. Don't drive it between the hours of 12pm and 4pm 7 days a week 365 days a year, this is usually peak hottest times of the day.

3. Don't drive it in crowded areas as you will feel hotter when not moving.

Now we are of course joking but there is some wisdom to the above points.

Now seriously....

We are able to supply the cars with air conditioning, full wet weather gear, soft top roofs. We are also going to be developing a hard top roof for the SEIW range some time very soon. So really none of you have any excuses not to be able to drive one of these truly great sports cars in all that Thailand has to offer.

Now can I just say to those of you continually highlighting the fact the Westfield has an open top design not suited to Thailand, Surely what you mean is - These cars are personally not suited to YOU and that’s why YOU would not consider purchasing this style of car and that really is ok with us.

We welcome your all critics and thoughts to our cars, but I believe it would be un-wise to speak for everyone, we are all different with the right to drive/own what we want, nobody should feel like a Prick/out of place in any car, its only if you have tendencies of this nature, you may struggle to hide this without a roof and perhaps driving around in one of our brighter coloured cars.

Westfields look awesome, thanks for bringing that to my attention.

My first car was as old as I was, a 1972 Cadillac DeVille. It did have a certain safety factor - basic physics, a 7m long slab of steel can't easily be crushed

Learned driving with a VW Golf - great because very easy to drive and more importantly has excellent visibility, even a beginner knows where the chassis of this car ends.

As first car I would recommend small Honda or Toyota [Golfs are way overpriced in Thailand], or depending on the budget a BMW 3 series. The reason is that these all have great handling while being easy to drive. Fortuner isn't easy to drive in the city and handling is lacking compared to cars, but otherwise a great car - I have one

First car I really enjoyed driving with was a Mazda MX-5, small but pure fun to drive. Stick-shi

Have you seen the Top Gear episode where they build a Cateram in 8 hours? Watching that put me off building my own motor (as they said when it only saves you 2 grand, why bother doing in yourself?)

Guide prices start from 1.3 million for a fully built car,2 million upwards for a 2000 sport plus excise duty in order to obtain registration, this part we are waiting on for a firm prices but you could be looking at approx one million on top, please don't hold us to this, we have not completed a registration yet. We will know more very soon.

We do have alternatives regarding registration, similar to the bike systems, which will be cheaper. but at the end of the day its what you are happy with as a form of being road legal, there are a few options.

This is Thailand after all, what can you do? but try to fit in with the ways they seem to like to operate. Maybe one day they will indeed have a system in place for kit cars to be built in Thailand and not be penalised for doing so in duty or forced to go down the route so many of you seem to be reluctant to do, purchase a book for example.

But for the foreseeable future, this is it for now, who knows when this will change if at all?

I personally dont mind some rule bending but how to find a book for a car like a westfield.. Its one thing to find a bent book on a honda, but finding one on a rarity strikes me as tough..

Who need registration? Just put your "normal car" plates when you go out to drive...and if the police stop you, they never ever asked me for car registration, only for my driving licence. So they will get 200-500 baht tip and you can keep driving...Make sence?

I live in BKK, got stoped almost every week and they only ask for driving licence(+200 baht inside)...:-)
