March 14, 200719 yr my 3 yo vonage telephone device died .. i got no where with vonage email support signed up for skype in 1 minute .. purchased $10 worth of minutes of which i was able to use less than $2. worth during the 10 days it took vonage to get me a new telephone device. apparently 800# calls are not billed .. I was on the phone with a flirty sweet heart (but total idiot! ) PI operator for over 1 1/2 hours (really) without skype minutes being charged. I am a now big fan of Skype. the fact that any phone # on any web site becomes a 'skype auto-dial' number is pure genius & the easy to navigate 'phone number address book' makes skype easier to use than any phone i have ever used. skype is wonderful & unbelievably economical. in case anyone cares..
March 14, 200719 yr My ISP and Vonage keep sending me mail asking me to sign up for their services ranging in price from $24.95/mo to $69.99/mo I paid Skype $14.95 for a year and get unlimited long distance calling throughout Canada, and the US. My ISP allows Skype users to use the extra bandwidth reserved for their VOIP service for $10/mo but so far I haven't found a need for it.
March 16, 200718 yr Try this one. Get a phone number from Skype. I think they call it skypeout. You pay (I think) 10 euros a year, choose the number you want (ie, I choose chicago) and then it gets billed to the person calling you at a local rate, and you don't pay anything. Example. If I call someone, I use skype. Then I tell them, call me back on my USA number. If computer not on/skype not logged in, it goes to a voicemail (skype, but you can change the recording) and it gives it to you the next time you log in. Can't get easier than that!
