TMD issues first weather warning after tropical storm ‘Mun’

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a weather warning related to tropical “Mun” this evening (Monday), to alert people to approaching heavy rains and strong winds in the South.

 

In the statement, the TMD predicts more rain from 16th – 21st July in the South and East due to a tropical depression approaching from the Pacific, which is likely to gain strength and move through the Philippines into the northern South China Sea, and the strengthening southwest monsoon that prevails over the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand.

 

“Outbreaks of heavy rain are also possible for those areas. People should be aware of severe conditions that may cause flash floods and heavy water runoff” warned the TMD in its statement.

The TMD has about the same credibility as a Thai bar girl who says "love you only, love you long time", etc. In so many words, they are talking shi t e. Already we're having one of the worst drought years in a very long time. Farmers should be planting/growing rice now, but all over the north almost no rain, canals dry, no irrigation, game over for millions of farmers. For once I wish the TMD would be right and it would rain cats and dogs, but don't hold your breath for anything promised by Thai mouths. 

This fake news as TS Mun landed in northern Vietnam for than 2 weeks ago.

Does refer to the south but nevertheless the TMD website has shown rain for Chiangmai and many northern areas for weeks now, absolutely useless. And yes, the driest June, July I can ever remember.

I guess it is all about how you interpret it.  It does also mean 70% chance of no rain, ????

In Udon, luckily we had a wet June. July has been somewhat dry, just 10 mm in the last week. Thai Weather forecast? 10% chance of rain everyday for next week. What a fudge.

The affected areas listed by the TMD are Nakhon Nayok, Chachoengsao, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat in the East, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat and Phatthalung in the South’s east coast, Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang and Satun in the west coast.

The strong southwest monsoon prevails across the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. From 18-19 July, tropical storm DANAS developed from the Pacific is likely to move through upper Luzon, the Philippines to Taiwan.         From 16-19 July, outbreaks of heavy rains are also possible for the South and the East regions. People should beware of the severe condition that may cause flash flood and water runoff.         The wind waves in the Andaman Sea are likely 2-3 meters high and the Gulf, about 2 meters high. In thundershower areas, there will be more than 3 meters high. All ships should proceed with caution, and small boats keep ashore. ok according to the US Navy, topical storm DANAS is going to move almost due north from its current position.

the low pressure will suck moisture east from the Andaman Sea across southern Thailand.  

Very similar to Tropic storm Mun a few weeks ago.
