guru Posted July 27, 2019 Posted July 27, 2019 I went for an influenza vaccine and was told by the Doctor they only stock the Southern Hemisphere version which I agreed to get. Thinking back I don’t know whether she meant her hospital only stocked Southern Hemisphere or Thailand in general? The way she explained to me is that I’m now vaccinated against the following strains: A MichiganA Switzerland B Colorado B Phuket She said B Colorado and Phuket are common with the northern hemisphere vaccine but the A types differ. She said if I’m infected with A Brisbane or A Kansas then no protection. After holidays students and teachers return from all 4 corners of the world in both hemispheres with various infections. Does anyone know if I can get the northern hemisphere vaccine anywhere in Bangkok to protect me against Brisbane and Kansas?
uhuh Posted July 27, 2019 Posted July 27, 2019 The updated northern hemisphere vaccine comes out shortly before flu season in the north, ie autumn of the northern hemisphere. (Thai flu season is during the rainy season, so people get vaccinated before the rainy season, ie beginning of the Thai school year) 2
Sheryl Posted July 27, 2019 Posted July 27, 2019 As above. You can get Northern Hemisphere vaccine here (mainly at travel clinics) but not now. 1
