How Much Does Electricity Cost In Patong?

Featured Replies

My landlord wants to put up the electricity charge from 4 to 5 baht per unit.

How much does electricity actually cost in Patong and is there a standing charge too?

Thanks!

Hallo,

as far as I know the net cost per unit vary at present around Baht 2.88 - 2.90 per unit. Then there is a surcharge ("Ft"?) of between 0.7842 and 0.8544 and there is the 7 % tax. That sums up to about Baht 3.86 per unit.

By the way my (foreign) landlord charges Baht 6 per unit. And I pay a flat rate of Baht 300 for water per month to my landlord.

Thanks very much for that. So 4-5 baht doesn't seem so bad then.

27% profit for the landlord

but elec goes up the more that you use!

7 for me. Water 25! - not in Patong.

With everything from som tam and burgers to beer and sunloungers being overpriced in Phuket, I wouldn't expect these most basic of services to be any different. :o

Also bear in mind it depends on the install.. Our services provided are 3 phase industrial as at the time they couldnt get meters and the electric company wouldnt run private lines to the location.. So they have thier own transformer (it blew last year costing them a lot to replace) and 3 phase is slightly more expensive than regular.

Also as stated it gets more expensive the more you use.

Not true...unless your meter is faulty. Please see paragraph 3 of the linked post, which is here;

I don't get a water bill and the elec bill comes str8 to my house and I pay they woman that brings it :D (or at 7-11 if I don't have about 1300 baht on me at the time)

Electricity prices varies according to how much you use (more you use the higher the tarrif paid) - I pay 3.75/unit (using ~1000 unit or 3.5K Baht/month).

(The lower end starts at 3.4 Baht/unit).

Not in Patong.

My landlord charge as below.

5 Baht unit for electricity.

10 Baht unit for water.

I have no idea about the posters experience that you linked however.. 3 phase industrial supply is slightly more expensive than ordinary residential (tho night use should be cheaper) maybe there is a kind of 3 phase residential supply however thats not what our development has.. It also does not have the same sliding bands if increasing prices.

From memory 3 phase industrial came in at a hair over 4 baht per unit for daytime use last year.. It went up mid last year by 1/2 or 3/4 a baht.. I was argueing with the landlord and supply company and checked all invoicing and with the electric co. All was honest tho it was a bit more than I would pay with a normal residential meter system.

BTW there used to be a linked PDF file from TV showing the electric companies charged rates and also for 3 phase.. All prices and bands etc..

However last time I saw it, it was the pre last years price increases.. I have no idea if it was ever made current.

There are different kinds of electrical installations & therefore different kinds of tariffs for each different installation.

Tariffs are generally split into 2 major groups being Domestic & Commercial/Industrial, although sometimes Industrial tariffs are separate from Commercial depending on the size & type of industry.

The 3 phase spoken about here is Domestic only, unless a poster specifies otherwise.

Yes but I am the poster who first said that my industrial 3 phase is a little more expensive than normal single phase household supply..

You then said that wasnt true.. It is !!!

I didn't interpret your post in the way that you think I did but thanks for helping me to understand your meaning.

  • 2 months later...

A friend stayed at a certain villa in Patong and they charged him 7 baht/unit for electricity! Given that most places charge 4 baht (sometimes 5), this is a nice little earner of an extra 1000 - 1500 baht /month for the average user. Yes, I know it's Patong but the electricity is no dearer there than anywhere else (and I still pay 4 baht/unit in central Patong).
