BANGKOK (NNT) - Government spokesperson Prof Narumon Pinyosinwat said the government has focused on the fundamentals of the economy, a major element of national security, and has set an appropriate national strategy.

Prime Minister/Defense Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha is quoted as saying the government will help those who may earn no more than 5,344 baht per month, who account for 26.9 million people or 40% of the population. Most are in the agricultural sector.

The Ministry of Commerce is pushing for the implementation of economic policies, while Deputy Commerce Minister Veerasak Wangsupakitkosol has consulted with directors general and executive officials from various departments for action plans in line with the economic policies.

The Ministry of Commerce has instructed the Department of Business Development to take four measures, via electronic systems, to provide convenience for the business sector and the people, develop local retail stores and strengthen the local economy. The department is promoting the OTOP manufacturing sector and expand franchised businesses.

The SUPPORT Arts and Crafts International Center of Thailand, National Gem and Jewelry Research and Development Institute and International Institute of Trade and Development have applied technology for enhancing business efficiency and promoting trade opportunities and competitiveness. The government is creating understanding with farmers and people under the policy of leaving nobody behind.

Casino's baby ....Why waste time with farmers ...''show me the real money''....

Casinos are of little interest to those who may earn no more than 5,344 baht per month, who account for 26.9 million people or 40% of the population.

That said, many of those are subsistence farmers, producing their own food, living off their land, and selling any surplus for cash, so B5,344 (what a curiously precise figure) is not their sole means of support.

Still, casinos are of little interest to them, or indeed the vast majority of the population, for whom B25,000 a month is apparently the average.

Golly gee, I read the article twice.  And not once did anyone mention the astronomically high Baht as a problem.  Maybe that’s because they don’t see it that way.  Tourism, exports, agri-Business—who needs them, anyway?

If there was an election in the wind, I'd call this vote buying (maybe there is).

But with no election looming, but a government taking a lot of flack, I'd call it "sucking up to the masses".

Just another rambling and incoherent collection of platitudinous words from a bunch of useless fat cats. Sadly for the people they lack the ability to turn their words and promises into action.

Well said!

Looking forward to a robust parliamentary session on the budget. This will be fodder for the opposition to tear into the defense and interior ministry huge allocations. A vote of no confidence is timely now.

As long as he is concerned, it's the thought that counts.

It counts even more when expresses his concern by placing his hand on his heart.........while ignoring the lady pleading for help.

A NIDA poll was conducted throughout the country on May 9-10, 2019

https://www.thaipbsworld.com/impacts-from-governments-economic-stimulus-package-minimal-nida-poll/

  • 40.43% of respondents said the economic stimulus measures were unlikely to have any impact on the Thai economy; 18.26% believed the Thai economy will perform worse; 41.31% of the respondents thought the measures would boost the Thai economy.
  • Asked whether the measures would prompt them to spend more, 64.35% of respondents disagreed, while the other 35.65 percent said they might spend more.

It was reported by another news source (can't be cited) that the same poll also asked if the respondents wanted the government to introduce new economic stimulus measures:

  • 96.17% - "no"

PM Prayut who has been Head of Government since September 2014 and continues as PM has lost the confidence of the People in economic matters. The "appropriate national strategy" is out of date.

The Thai public knows this. Why doesn't the government know this?

My prediction would be watch out for Anutin from Bhumjaithai he comes across as very savvy and plays his cards close to his chest makes a lot of the right noises to appeal to the common folk as well as the well off.A very astute politician in my opinion.
