Comments on news items

I'm not certain if this is the correct place to ask this, so please move it to a more appropriate forum if necessary.

 

I've notice in the past few weeks that news items concerning immigration have been closed to comments when they were posted by Admin.

Am I allowed to ask what the reason for this is?
