Runscanner

Found a new Freeware software that maybe (very) usefull for to find out what's running on your computer and tweak the system for your requirements.

The Software is still in Beta Testing and "Brandnew"! Good part: there's already a forum on the website of the developer and that in different languages;

Take a look at the following link and download if you like it: http://www.runscanner.net/default.aspx

I check this out already. At present moment this program can be useful only if on your PC/Laptop running some unknown processes so you can ID them. But nothing functional there in this program yet.

Some of the function for stopping or deleting working already. But the Main feature in the moment is to find out what all is running and the location where the progs on the comp.

For sys admins it's maybe a tool to find something quickly, like me, i found on one of my machines the prog what keep the system busy the whole time!

Any Beta versions of software never works perfectly, they have a lot bugs and other problems. The use of an Beta version should be done cartefully at all time and this program is a Beta! So never expect to much from an Beta version! But again, it may give the info which are needed and that is a point!

I dunno, CTRL-ALT-DEL and task manager (process list) always worked well enough for me. I don't know why I would need anything more.

Not everyone knows what all those processes are.

Very right!!

I mainly use Whatsrunning 2.2 (freeware downloadable from: http://whatsrunning.net) which gives you a lot info include many online info. But Whatsrunning is a advanced Taskmanager while Windows Taskmanager is much more basic.

Let see what the final version of RunScanner will be if once is released!

Um, just to rephrase that it works for me, and I wouldn't know why I would need anything more. That's me, "I", and not anyone else.

I can pretty much identify each and every process in my process list (and I have around 30 programs open at any one time). Anything that I don't know about I can find about using a search.

Again, that's me. I *really* hate having multiple programs that does pretty much the same thing on my machine. And that's me.

Of course in the process list of taks manager (and if selected to show all processes for all users, you will for instance see many instances of svchost.exe for instance, to know what these do, you still need to use a separate tool like the command tasklist /svc to find out what each of these instances (process ID is displayed) exactly do.

I'm assuming I would get that info from other third party tools, without having to go into cmd.

Firefox, you're right and it's true that what id the right things for me must not the right one for others!

Some of the software I use is very old, more than 10 or 15 years but I've a lot data on it, the is easy to use, very fast on todays systems and can still do what I have to do, so why I should change?!

And again, my "normal" Taskmanager is Whatsrunning but sometimes it's not a bad idea to use an other tool for comparing, double-check and so on. Some of the tools maybe useless but usefull as well to just get some info?!

And if you take software like Spy/adware remover pp., use one of them and you find something, use the next one, you find more and so on. Same happens with AntiVirus Software!

Sometimes you'll need to use more than one pgm form same type to be as safe as possible.
