Notaries In Cm? And A Marriage Document Question

Featured Replies

Hey everyone, I need some things notarized and was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction.

Also a marriage document question. I already had the affidavit translated and sent to BKK. I have it all back, now taking it to the Amphur before or after the wedding ceremony is our choice? I did not see anything about this on the embassy site.

Thanks in advance!

You can do the offical marriage regsitration at any time - they don't care if you've had the ceremony or not.

As for notorization, it all depends on who it's for. If the documents are English-Thai translations that need to be notarized for a government department, the only acceptable place is the foreign ministry in Bangkok. There's plenty of translation places around Chiangmai that can assist with this however.

It's for a prenup, she doesn't need it translated to Thai since she is fluent in English. I read in a thread here that the prenup needs to be signed at the notary to be valid.

thanks for the response Bliss.

Just as important, contracts in English are effectual and legally contestable in Thailand.

I'm assuming that as it's in English and you're asking about notarization on TV, that this in turn means that the template pre-nup has foreign origins. If this is the case, you probably ought to run it by a Thai member of the bar to ensure there's nothing in it contradictory to Thai law, and at the same time I'm sure they'll be able to assist with the necessary notarization.

Last I heard there were no notary publics in Thailand but you could get some type of certification by a Consul or Embassy which was usually accepted.

Thanks for the reply, I just got back from Singapore and will give him a call tomorrow. I know of the lawyer forum, I was just trying the locals first.

Thanks to all who helped out!
