Crime Elder Brother Shoots Sibling Dead After Years of Trouble
Picture courtesy of SiamNews A long-standing family feud ended when a man shot his younger brother dead under their family home in Mukdahan province, following years of alleged harassment and threats against neighbours and family members. Police were called to a house in Ban Khok Sung Noi, Kham Ahuan subdistrict, Mueang Mukdahan district, where they found the body of 44-year-old Mr. Athit lying near a wooden table under the house. He had been shot multiple times with a .32 calibre handgun. The suspected gunman, identified as Mr. Wut, 46, the victim’s elder brother, remained at the scene and surrendered to police. According to investigators, the victim had been drinking rice whisky when the suspect approached and accused him of brandishing a gun and threatening to shoot their father. An argument broke out, during which Mr. Athit allegedly pointed a gun at his brother. Mr. Wut, who had previously served as a conscript in the armed forces, reportedly disarmed his brother and fired five shots, hitting him in the chest and arm. Neighbours told reporters the deceased was well known locally for aggressive and disruptive behaviour, frequently threatening others with firearms. They claimed he had previously driven his own father from the family home after threatening to kill him, forcing the elderly man to live in a field hut. A witness, identified only as Ms. Fon, said she was watching television with her family, when she heard loud bangs, initially mistaking them for firecrackers. She went outside and discovered Mr. Athit had been shot dead, prompting her to call his father. Police took Mr. Wut into custody at Mueang Mukdahan Police Station for questioning. Picture courtesy of Daily News Officers from the Police Cyber Taskforce (PCT) and Region 6 Provincial Investigation Division have arrested a 35-year-old Chinese national, believed to be the ringleader of a call centre syndicate that duped victims into a bogus gold trading scheme, causing losses exceeding 18 million baht. On 9 August, Police Lieutenant General Kittisak Durongkibubul, Commissioner of Provincial Police Region 6, together with Deputy Commissioner Police Major General Natthawut Phakphum and Investigation Commander Police Major General Detphon Premsiri, ordered a joint operation led by senior investigation officers to apprehend Mr Zheng Yongbin. The suspect was detained at a residence in the Prachathipat subdistrict of Thanyaburi, Pathum Thani province. The arrest followed an earlier crackdown in which police dismantled a network of “money mule” accounts used to launder funds from the scam. Victims had reported to Kamphaeng Phet police that they were persuaded to invest in online gold stock trading with promises of high returns. Once money was transferred, all contact with the fraudsters was cut off. Investigators found that the network included Thai nationals acting as intermediaries, collecting funds before transferring them to the Chinese ringleader. The gang withdrew the money at various locations across Bangkok and surrounding provinces. Police allege Mr Zheng was responsible for directing the laundering of the illicit proceeds. During the arrest, officers seized two mobile phones and 148,400 baht in cash. The suspect and evidence have been handed over to investigators at Kamphaeng Phet Police Station for further legal proceedings. Police said the operation was part of an ongoing effort to combat sophisticated call centre scams, which continue to target investors with promises of lucrative returns in commodities such as gold. Picture courtesy of Kaoded. An 80-year-old local man was found dead in a forest in Huai Krachao district, Kanchanaburi, with his body showing extensive burn marks, authorities confirmed. At 20:25 on 9 August, the Huai Krachao branch of the Kanchanaburi Rescue Foundation received a report of a fatality in a wooded area in Moo 16, Huai Krachao subdistrict. Six rescue volunteers, along with an ambulance, were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, responders discovered the victim lying face down. Large areas of his body had been severely burned. Police investigators from Huai Krachao Police Station and an on-duty doctor were called to examine the scene. The cause of death has yet to be determined and it remains unclear how the man came to suffer the burns. His body has been sent for an autopsy.
