You think she came up with any of this nonsense by herself?  It is just a big virtue signaling stunt by her parents, and of course Liberals swallow it whole as usual. Someone will end up making money off of her of course.

You do understand that ‘virtue signaling’ has no fixed association with ‘virtue’ and is equally applicable to broadcasting spite, hatred and other such undesirable traits to an audience that shares those traits?!

Also, he offers absolutely no evidence to support his contention. Odd how it exactly suits his political biases.

I don't know why you talk so often about political biases, i think that doesn't apply to many posters in this thread.

One is tempted to think that those political biases are all yours, and not other people's.

Of course. Silly of me. Clearly the person who wrote this:

has no animus in him against liberals at all.

Well, that person clearly has some political biases, i can't deny that.

But i think that environmental issues are above political parties or factions, and it's wrong to think that only leftists or liberal are aware of the problem, while conservative parties or factions are in denial.

Looking at the countries I know the political situation in, it does seem that the conservative factions care more about direct effects on economy, while the left is more willing to let environment prevail, especially short term.

USA, UK, Germany, Netherlands, France, all those countries that is applicable.

Maybe you're right, but for sure both economy and environment affect all of us.

I meant education system, But in reality all of the institutions are now parroting the same tropes.

Freighter travel these days.

How about you?

Well, the last people traveling to Asia on a steamer I thought were Robert Mitchum and Clark Gable back in 50s adventure films. But I must admit that the travel link you provided looks, well, interesting. Enough to get the inner Talbot Mundy within me a bit excited at the prospect.

Sounds like she's an opinionated spoilt brat.

Greta Thunberg's opinions are not her own.

She is simply reading out words given to her by an array of experienced climate activists pushing a political agenda.

They are betting that our current culture is so dumbed down and deranged that it is ripe for being led around by a ring through its nose by a 16-year-old in pigtails.

It's beginning to look as if they are right, heaven help us.

I would doubt what you were saying given all the evidence of how bright and focused that young woman is, but the contrary evidence you have cited in support of your assertion is remarkably convincing. And I'm guessing that when she answered question in her appearance at the US Congress that  had a receiver plugged into her ear and she was just repeating what she heard from one of her handlers.

Good for her, so young, autistic but making a difference which is more than the old sacks of lard on their bar stools are doing.

She has surely made a difference for herself, but in the big picture of the world environment there is no difference at all.

I guess the "old sacks of lard on the bar stools" is your description of the posters who are commenting on this thread, that's not a very polite thing to say :whistling:

Funny, for me dumbed down would be believing a mythological refuge, such as heaven, is of more help than someone basing their vision on scientific fact.

This sort of posturing is what is sickening. You people deliberately put someone out to advance a controversial position and then try to make her above criticism. Yes, the kid looks creepy. I'm unaware of any disease she has, because it's not my job in life to investigate her biography. You are simply a moral troll. You do it in one topic after another. And, yes, you're a bore and a boor.

You're the guy who likens her to an Addams family member, and I'm the boor?

And if by now you don't know that she has Aspergers, you must have been going out of your way to avoid reading about her. But somehow you know that "You people deliberately put someone out to advance a controversial position and then try to make her above criticism."

It's not that amazing, The world has embraced a propaganda savant and declared her miraculous and inspiring. Lots of kids have incredible capacity for storing and repeating facts and history, or math skills, or are a virtuoso on a specific instrument. Greta has been told the world's in danger and she has a mono obsession with it.

I have an autistic kid, You can't change his mind on anything he thinks is true. Fortunately his obsession is the characters of video games which, although being useless, also won't force the agenda of human enslavement upon us either.

Your responses in virtually every topic you participate in are boorish. No, I don't know about her Aspergers, because I don't pray to Saint Greta. Your position is that of a religion, not public policy.

Basing one's vision on a "scientific fact" seems very rational, but only in theory.

It's also a scientific fact that big corporations are running the show, and they have the best scientists in their pockets.

I prefer to put my faith in mythological refuges, such as heaven, at least they don't stink too much.

First off, there is a wide spectrum on the autistic scale. Thunberg has Asperger's. And how do you know that Greta was told this information and passively accepted it? Did someone tell your child that there are video games out there and he has to play them?

I don’t share your belief that big corporations control the scientists alerting us all to the dangers of climate change or in the existence of mythological places of refuge, whether be Heaven, Valhalla or Xanadu.

We have the opportunity to make the changes that need to be made to clean up the mess we have made of our planet.

We don’t need to rely on the old myths, just ourselves.

As for corporate control of scientists, the only evidence there is of that is Koch (and fellow traveler's) cash going to fund climate denialists.

I would really like to share your faith in Greta, the environmentalists and the ethical principles of science.

Well, it's not about alerting us all, most people are alerted since decades.

It's about feasible solutions to the problem, and sorry, but given the size of the planet, and the political-economical situation, together with people expectations, i don't see any solution in the short term.

Perhaps Bob Marley was right when he sang "Total destruction, the only solution".
