webfact Posted September 29, 2019 Share Posted September 29, 2019 11 districts in Bangkok have excessive PM2.5 dust particles Air quality in Bangkok, and its two neighbouring provinces of Samut Prakan and Samut Sakhon, has worsened today (Sunday), with the level of PM2.5 dust particles ranging from 37 to 67 micrograms/cubic metre. The Pollution Control Department said today that PM2.5 dust particles exceeded 50 micrograms/cubic metre in Bangkok’s 11 districts, compared to just six districts the previous day. The affected districts are Pathumwan, Sathorn, Bang Khor Laem, Yan Nawa, Khlong San, Phasi Charoen, Bang Sue, Laksi, Bang Khen, Bang Phlad and Bang Khun Thien. Locally, in a Bangkok district not on the "affected" list, the PM 2.5 was 127 µg/m³ (i.e. 5 times the World Health Organisation daily limit). Bangkok residents woke up to see a cloud of small dust in the heart of the capital, including Pathum Wan, Din Daeng, and sections of Lat Phra road. Levels of 42-66 micrograms per cubic metre (µg/m3) were found in 14 areas. Thailand’s official safety limit is 50µg/m3, double the World Health Organisation’s 25µg/m3. Bangkok was also ranked the second highest after Hanoi on Monday for the pollution, according to the Air quality and pollution city ranking as reported by airvisual.com. webfact Posted September 30, 2019 Author Share Posted September 30, 2019 PM orders immediate action to address haze in Bangkok Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has ordered authorities immediately to activate prepared measures to mitigate the haze, which has returned to Bangkok and its suburbs. Expressing concern about the haze, especially the PM2.5 dust particles, the Prime Minister pleaded with construction site operators and industries in Bangkok and neighbouring provinces to reduce their dust emissions. He also advised people in high risk areas to wear face masks whey they are outdoors. The Pollution Control Department today (Monday) reported that 13 areas in Bangkok, two in Nonthaburi province, one in Pathum Thai, five in Samut Prakan, two in Samut Sakhon and one in Nakhon Pathom have excessive levels of PM2.5 dust particles. Central Thailand is reaching the 60's, and Chiang Mai doing it's best with 44. Only the islands and beaches of the south aren't currently choking to some degree. unamazedloso Posted September 30, 2019 Share Posted September 30, 2019 Stop calling it dust. Dust you can see! Pm2.5 size and smaller particles are formed as a direct result of combustion only. Much finer than any visable concrete, dirt, etc. Its the farmers, forest burners, charcoal burners, charcoal manufacturers, bad diesels, etc. Most cars and bikes are fine. I have a pm2.5 reader as do a lot of people nowadays and anyone can find holes in the governments ideas. Firstly, water doesnt do a dam thing! The wind assosiacted with coming rains does. Tested it many times and put the pm meter behind exhausts of many vehicles and only the diesles register bad and 2stroke motorcyles. I have race bikes with literally no mufflers or catylic converters and all are barely registerable. Got to stop the burning pm! Oh, and stop blaming neighbouring countries. Fix yours first! This year the idiot tried using his article 44 to fix it in 7 days, might as well be 7 years. If you look at a fire satellite map, Cambodia is the culprit. For 30 years they have talked about replacing the eco friendly red buses but I guess all want too big a skim and they haven't worked out how to get a couple of pretties thrown into the deal. A couple of suggestions... emissions control people at the port facility testing commercial vehicles, trucks (expand to all) , allow some parking space around bts/mrt routes, stagger working hours, phase out 2 stroke bikes, stop building an individual condo for every earthly inhabitant, upgrade the eco buses and use simple loop service buses in suk soi 39 et al instead of the 4 wheeled Suzuki carry eco friendly babies doing single trips...but I guess then someone else misses out on their bag to buy some pretties services for the week. That is exactly what all people living in the north live with EVERY year. What BKK is experiencing right now, is considered "Fresh Air" during the smoke season in the North. Data from 33 PCD monitoring stations in Bangkok showed many of the capital’s districts affected by unhealthy air quality levels of 40-78 micrograms per cubic metre, well above the safety level of 50 micrograms per cubic metre of air. Among the affected districts are Bangkhuntien, Pathumwan, Thonburi, Wang Thonglang, Din Daeng, Samphanthawong, Phya Thai, Bang Rak, Sathorn, Bang Sue and Laksi.
