MANCHESTER, England (Reuters) - The United Kingdom can leave the European Union on Oct. 31 without a deal despite a law which demands the prime minister ask for a Brexit delay if there is no agreement, finance minister Sajid Javid said on Monday.

When asked if a no deal was possible, Javid told the BBC: “Yes it is. It’s not our preferred outcome. We are working incredibly hard to get a deal by October 31.”

“But if we do not manage to do that, we do still need to leave the EU on that date - we cannot have any more dither and delay, and we will leave if we have to, without a deal, on October 31,” Javid said. He said he thought he knew how that was possible given the law.

Do you follow the news?

Because if you follow the news then you should have seen lots of interviews with top EU politicians over the last weeks who confirm there is no (written) suggestion from the UK government for any new deal.

If Boris would have an idea why shouldn't he publish it? He has to discuss it with the EU anyhow to get their agreement. And of course he needs the vote from the UK parliament. How does he convince them all to vote for something unknown? It won't happen.

Are the UK and the EU still in negations about a deal, or is there no dialogue at all between the two ?

And I thought many Tories didn't vote for the deal which May agreed with the EU.

The UK could be out of the EU since March...

Or the Tories could have replaced May years ago.

But yeah, it's so much easier to blame someone for all those things.

That was because Mays deal was in name only and thus Brexiteers voted against it

May agreed nothing, she had no such authority, she was the main negotiator on behalf of the British government.

Parliament did not like her deal and voted against on 3 occasions.

Listening to him on the radio this morning he said [quot] "in 2010 When we first came back to office, we were absolutely economically on our knees, we were the laughing stock of Europe then..." so what are we now, the Tories have now made us the basket case of Europe...

As for him quoting our economy is better now... The pound has dropped to below $1.090 this month from 1.435 in July 2015.

Best quote to day came from Google who wrote to me saying "We are writing to inform you that, due to the possibility of the UK leaving the EU and incorporating an amended version of the GDPR into UK law, we will be updating:..." ????

Indeed, the government knows only broadly what the outline of a deal might look like:

There is a difference between (not) working hard and negotiating and giving in to your requirement .

The Uk Gov may be working hard in their negotiations  whilst at the same time , not giving in to EU demands

After Brexit, the UK will probably step by step have to take over european legislation in exchange for accessing part of the EU's single market but without having its say on it -

and that's what will be branded as " regaining  sovereignty" to brexiters, and everyone will be happy.
