I recall stopping at a zebra crossing in Udon Thani only to watch in horror as a following car almost mowed down the folks who were crossing. Yes, I too am also very wary about stopping now. I sometimes feel guilty about it, but in this situation, it seem that breaking the law is the safer option!

I think the only way they will ever make zebra crossings safe here is by installing raising bollards in the road and warning lights to stop the traffic.

These would wake them up.

I think drivers of cars are getting better now at zebra crossings. I’m noticing more people are willing to stop. Only problem now is the motorbikes. They more than not don’t stop. They just go around which is dangerous.

I can only testify to my area, but I imagine other areas are still terrible for cars stopping at zebra crossings.

I stopped at the zebra outside our local Tesco to let an old lady cross. Luckily I caught in the mirror a m/c taxi rider coming up at high speed. I beeped the horn which initially caused the old dear to throw me a look. Luckily she stopped and the bike doing about 60/70 kph, I guess, missed her by about 6 inches.

Wonder who would have got the blame if he had hit her??

Thats the problem you stop and most thai's dont understand why you stopped then bikes come flying up behind you, I think it safer not to stop to let someone cross

Agree, but if you learned to drive in uk or eu it becomes an automatic reaction to slow when approaching a zebra crossing. Here, the automatic reaction is to change direction and go around the person crossing.

Being 78 and unable to walk up or down stair due to physical impairment, I will probably be pushed aside by all the unimpaired people who want to use the elevators just like at the Sky Train and subway stations.

`nuf sed.
