Tour bus operators have been reminded to make sure their drivers and vehicles are both prepared to make the journey safely over the hills into Patong. Photo: Patong Police / file

PHUKET: Tour and people transport companies operating buses in Patong were yesterday brought together to make sure they get the message to make sure their drivers are prepared for the steep hills into the busy tourism town and the buses themselves are safe enough to make the journey.

The seminar, held at the A2 Pool Resort on the bypass road yesterday (Nov 5), was led by Phuket Vice Governor Supoj Rotreuang Na Nongkhai and joined by Phuket Land Transport Office (PLTO) Chief Banyat Kantha.

Chief Banyat pointed out that many bus accidents had happened on the hills into Patong over the years.

If they have to be reminded how to drive they should not be driving a bus in the first place.

Don't get out of bed and save us all should be the advice to all bus drivers here????

Making the vehicles safe is the easy part.....

Followed by the ''stern warning'' , followed by the old fashioned ''spanking''..

If you did your license test on the office yard, then Patong hill looks like Karakoram highway.

I had been driving a rent car in Phuket and found these "steep hills" a laughing matter.

Yup, that short term memory is the first to go. After that it's all brain brake failures.

Out of interest what kind of training do PSV drivers do? Is that none

Well. 50 years ago I took my PSV test in the UK. The training was learning the bus routes. About the only technical bit was learning to reverse round a corner.

Laughable; it will just fall on deaf ears or they just don't even hear it anyway !

What a joke.  Really, it is a very sad situation~no control, enforcement or standards

How ridiculous  is that, if one has to remind their drivers  how to drive safely ,That driver shouldn't be driving and his/her license be canselled.

Can they do same and remind van drivers between KK and UT.

Rubbish. I took my PSV and it is an in depth driving test lasting about 1 hour and the pass rate i believe 65%.

Now of course if you train and lock yourself into one if the UK big 3 fir 3 years employment who have there own  testers, wow sounds a bit like LOS doesn't  it.

You can rubbish me all you like, I did say 50 years ago. It was in in no way an in depth test in my honest opinion. Maybe 30  minutes show drive skills - IN A YARD.  But as I said that was back in the dark days. My son is a current UK bus driver. He tells me no special skills taught other than have car DL and can handle larger vehicle, like double decker city bus.
