A meeting of the National Tobacco Products Control Committee yesterday (November 7) approved a framework for monitoring pneumonia caused by electronic cigarettes, and assigned monitoring duties to all hospital and public health centre nationwide, Samrueng Yangkratok, Public Health Minister’s assistant and the president of the meeting.

According to the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as of October 29, 1,888 cases of pneumonia had been attributed to patients’ smoking electronic cigarettes, of whom 37 had died. In Thailand, the use of hookahs and electronic cigarettes has increased three times in young people aged 15 to 18.

“Our tobacco products use survey shows 20 per cent of Thai youths who smoke are vaping,” Samrueng said. Anyone affected by the smoke and vapours put out by electronic cigarettes or find themselves short of breath, have chest pain, nausea, vomiting, weakness, abdominal pain, fever, or weight loss, should go to a hospital or public health centre for immediate treatment”, the Department of Disease’s director-general Suwanchai Wattanayingcharoenchai suggested.

In addition, e-cigarettes are filled with liquid nicotine, which affects the brains of babies, children, and youths causing poor memory, lower intelligence, and affecting behaviour. Liquid nicotine also increases the risk of heart disease.

“The smoke emitted by e-cigarette is dangerous to the lungs, increasing the risk for numerous kinds of cancer” said the director-general. “Meanwhile fungus caused by sub-standard liquid nicotine or other addictive substances can sometimes be found in the e-cigarette holders and also poses risks to users’ health. To date, there have been 2,035 cases of electronic cigarettes exploding reported in the US.”

How can people get pneumonia when vaping is illegal ????

Better question is how can number of vapers increase 3 times when vaping is banned ????

And since numbers have increased that much, has the cancer and other fatal illnesses increased as well?

I was pretty skeptical myself regarding this press release, and whilst they may well have their ulterior motives, there has been something pretty major happening in the US in recent months...

The damage is already done by smoking cigarettes for many years before someone decides to try to give up and goes to vaping to help. But Tobacco Monopoly will only blame vaping cos all they care about is money, not health.  Pathetic Thailand !  Its only getting worse. Glad I never moved over.

Ever smoke marijuana ? You suck it into your lungs and hold it as long as you can to get the full 'effect' of the THC. Yep, all 37 dead suckers had THC in their systems. They weren't vaping; they were using the tool as a delivery system for the drugs. Still, 37 isn't that high of a number to be concerned unless it is your gene pool being cleansed.

Wasn't THC though, but E asetate, an ingredient that when heated and inhaled causes lung damage. Somebody manufactured toxic e-juice.

No, ejuice does not use E asetate

THC oil Is where EAsetate is added for thickness

The CDC finally admits it was Vitamine E acetate in all samples found: Source.

They knew this already 2 months ago but refused to publish it in favor of Big Tobacco and Big Pharma.

They contributed to the big scare to try to ban vaping all together, The sick and dead where just collateral damage.

And there is this, the MSA, Master Settlement Agreement. The states received BIG money from the tobacco industry as compensation for smoking related illnesses and deaths. The states sold bonds for that money, even invested in the tobacco industry with that money.

It is all a very dirty game and money is the only motivator.

Another expert with either a brain the size of a pea or an outright lier or more likely both. There's both nicotine and non-nicotine juice. Apart from that I'm sure that the 'healthier' cigarettes and the pollution has nothing to do with lung disease. Also the above nonsense should have sponsored by the monopolistic Thai tobacco company attatched to it.
