rickudon
Been away from the thread for a couple of weeks, so didn't see Owl's Cheese post. have the information he wanted. Chern Chim - the owner sold it to concentrate on a new beer bar and mainly wholesale farang foods. The new owners (2) only had it for a few months and one died, it closed and never reopened. There is a cheese shop - Called 'Cheese to meet you' - has been open a couple of years, on the same road as St Mary's school - take the Soi Nong bua road from the ringroad, turn left at the main road (Posri road?) and it is about 200 metres up, half way to the St Mary's school. I would play chess there on a Saturday. That was many moons ago though. Mildred was just a tiddler then.
Popular Post owl sees all
Owl Log - 18-12-2022 - Sunday afternoon Mildred off school for three days last week. That gave her some time for her artwork. She had been painting miniatures. These are only 'post card' in size. This one is a portrait of her friend at school. One of the farm avoes has kicked the bucket. Right from the start it was poorly. Never recovered from transplant shock. Usually it's broken roots that do the damage. The other one is doing OK though. I'm gonna replace the dead one just as soon as this cold spell is over. Dogs everywhere at the farm. At our farm we are visited by Curly Wurly, Happy and new pup Milo. Happy looks on as Milo gets the attention. And across the road opposite us. Spotted a wagon full of hay in Ban Dung. Mildred's bus driver's wife, is up to something. She is planting something special in those rings. Don't want no chickens or dogs in there spoiling whatever she is ganna grow. Watch those fingers dear. Has she never heard of cable ties? And Mr useless, the wife's brother - whose wife kicked him out - put up a fence at his mums. Nice job! Animals rule here. Chickens, dogs and cows have right of way. The light in the bathroom stopped working and I put up an emergency. The Mrs likes it. So it could be there to stay. Brightens up the kitchen too. The younger children in the village have been having a real bouncy time all week. 201595983_vidtrampoline.mp4 Me and Mildred went to the duck farm on Thursday. This is the farm that had the disaster with cassava last season. Planted sugar last month and it is showing through. Went to Ban Dung yesterday. Weekly shop. Good to see the old cat food back on the shelves. The moggies didn't like Big C's new range of flavours. Last week I bought half-a-dozen 'tuna with chicken'. They wouldn't eat it. Bought 12 of the old ones yesterday; 'sardine with shrimp' and 'sea food platter'. Well, really it was only ten cause of buy five get one free. That brought the price down to under 33 baht a tin. Not too bad that. Footy round up. The Owls dropped another point; at home this time. But not too damaging as rivals Ipswich got beat. Orient go seven clear. World cup finishes this w/e, but no EPL for another 8 days. Although there is a League cup game in the week between Pool and City. I'm impressed with the support that Division one are getting. 22k at Wednesday, 20k at Bolton and a whopping 24k at Derby. It's cold, everyone is too poor to eat and heat, but they are getting out to support their team. Great!!! Been watching the swimming from Melbourne all this week. Last day today. Biggest disappointment for me was David Popovici. Blew out in the 100 free and finished last in a 400 free heat. But to see Jordan Crooks, from the Cayman Islands, winning the 50 free was uplifting. Five swimmers represented Thailand. Not a sport that Thailand excels in. Although well short of the medals - or even finals - a few national records were set. Guys. Ratthawit Thammanantachot - 800 free 7.55.24 Navaphat Wongcharoen - 200 fly 1.56.37 Dulywat Kaewsriyong - 100 IM 54.81 and 200 IM 1.59.85 Gals. Jenjira Srisaard - 50 free 24.69 and 50 breast 30.48 and 50 fly 25.78 Very well done swimmers. Commentators struggled a little with the names. China having a terrible time. Is it because they are all wearing masks right up until they are about to dive in? Davis Weiss was a guest on the Richie Allen Show on Wednesday last. He has proof/evidence that the earth is flat. Well, the top bit where we all live anyway. Not so sure about the underside is David. Very interesting! A funny thing in the week. When Mildred was off school for a couple of months during the Covid spell. in 2021, we were doing a bit of maths every day. She must have remembered a method I showed her about measuring circles. At school they just started doing areas and the teacher asked if anyone had done areas of circles before. Mildred put up her hand and the teacher asked her if she had learnt it at her old school. She said "no", and explained that her dad (me) had said you only needed pebbles, or marbles, to find the area. When pressed further she said she couldn't remember. Evidently the teacher was baffled but appeared quite interested. When Mildred came home, she asked me to explain again; which I did. No lessons since due to not going to school on Thursday and Friday. Will be interesting if the circle theme comes up again next week. I've drawn out a 'proof' on a sheet of paper and she has it in her satchel. Was quite cold last week; and today also. One morning just 8C. Not a drop of rain. even though the forecast was for a shower or two over the week end. I've taken to wearing socks in bed. One claret and t'other light blue. My left eye is much improved. A bit irritating, and it's a job to keep self control and not rub it. But on the mend. Mrs Owl wants to cut the grass around the farm. Usually costs me between 4 and 5k baht. I'm not disagreeing with her, but after lending her sister Pook 20k, I'm just a bit short of readies this month. World focus. Same old stuff. War and fighting. In UK Labour easily win the by-election in Trafford (Greater Manchester). An MP asks about the MRNA Vaxes in Parliament. Europe shivering; especially in Ukraine. Muskie coming under fire in the US. Florida's DeSantis wants the US authorities to come clean about C-19 data. And it appears he is more popular than The Don, in Repub' circles. Didn't get anything done in the week as planned: again. No stone on the road. No trip to Udon. Next year now I reckon. Did a nut cut last week, Price has dropped to 4-80 baht a kilo. Bit of a difference to 10+ baht a couple of months back. Seez ya all on Xmas day. Only one thing left to say; bye y'all. Edited December 18, 2022 by owl sees all

But I like reishi wine anyway. A few years ago I was accused of having sex in the middle of a sugar field. Anyone who has been in a sugar field would laugh at that. Anyone but Mrs Owl that is. Gave me hell for weeks. She was probably upset about someone else and got angry on me. Funny enough, the sugar field is now our best euca farm. Condolences reference the Avocado, i'm sure he or she will be missed. Let's hope the luck doesn't run out. Better to go for a win every time. One win and one loss is better than two draws. I didn't see any WC footy except the goals of Eng v Iran, TBH, I'm more happy watching the English game over all seven divisions. I like a couple of Scottish teams as well. I always look for Hamilton, Cove and Banks O'Dee. Mildred does seem to like doing portraits, but she has done other things. She likes fantasy stuff. Always reading the books by Lilin, who has published a set of four books focusing om her dreams. There is nothing much in the way or art schooling around where we are. Perhaps in Udon. Rick would know. Lots of stuff about art on the www. Is Ting a fantasy or could she be real? I've got a couple of cracking avoes to plant in the farm. One is just 6 months old and getting on for two metres high. very thick at the base too. Cold this morning. I was the only one not wearing a gansey or coat when I escorted Mildred to her bus Dogs at it again. Rubbish everywhere outside. I was rubbishing David Popovici in the Owl Log, but he did come through in the 200 free; with a silver. He is the fastest swimmer in the pool but not a good turner. Can expect great things from him in the Long Course season. I think Biderman's 200 free world record could could go in the summer. Popular Post owl sees all
Owl Log - 25-12-2022 - Christmas day in the doghouse Not opened my Christmas pressie yet. Not got it yet. I know Mildred has got me a little something cause I bought it for her in Big C on Friday. I started a casual conversation with Mrs Owl about a week ago. "What would you like for Christmas teerak." "Often farangs give wives diamond." Don't think I could go a diamond, but I've got her a new cup. She dropped one on the floor in the week after getting angry with me. Bloody dags. At it again. I know that Thais love them but, dear me, they are so untidy. And on the same morning a charcoal bag broke as I was bringing it round the front to get a fire going. I intended to brew another 5 litres of reishi wine ready for festivities. I'll start that today. Luckily I've still got a couple of litres stored in the fridge. On Friday morning Mildred had to be in school early for the yearly parade. Dropped her off at 6-55 outside the hospital. The day before, another school was preparing for their march through Ban Dung. Musical instruments ready for the off. Crowds (mostly mums) wait in great anticipation. Some masks could be seen. Little soldier gets into the virtual family snap-book. I had a wander round, and got a couple of nice pics of the town shrine area. Very well manicured. We had decided not to put any more fertilizer around the palm trees. When we started with our partner, I strongly suggested that we use natural stuff, rather than chemical fertilizer. Of course I was shouted down by the Mrs. But someone had a change of mind, and now cow poo poo is back in favour. Buffalo poo poo too. Any kind of animal poo poo will be fine. Also sugar residue and cassava waste. We bought 300 sacks from a couple of places. Three bags for 100 baht. started putting them in the farm on Wednesday. One for each tree. Mrs Owl inspecting the goodies. Fortunately it met with her approval. Next thing was to slash each sack. This slashing does a few things. Firstly it stops bad people half-inching them. It also allows the rain to get in and make poo poo soup. The trees just love it. No rain, but I'm keeping them crossed. Still another 75 sacks to find for number 2 farm. But destroying 300+ sacks at 4 baht a go?! To explain about good nut production to the Mrs, I likened it to babies. They are ready quite a while after they are germinated. In the case of nuts, it's between 18 and 20 months. And the way to ensure good regular harvests, is continually enriching the soil. Of course, water plays an important part, but now that all me irrigation pipes are destroyed, it will have to be good old fashioned rain. And with the poo poo laying there getting dryer by the day, I'll be doing a bit of praying over the holiday. Kids were enjoying the trampolines, but the following day (Wednesday) they were gone. Some village must have hired them out for the holiday. Mildred's latest painting. Skin textures/tones getting better. Mrs Owl was watering the plants outside. Later I noticed that Mildred's pineapple had been knocked over. Lucky to have noticed it. If the roots had dried out that would have been that. Got it sorted and put it in a different, safer place. Nice to see Poo has found new friends. The Big Mango Lady is in hospital. She got taken ill on Monday, and Ban Dung Hospital sent her straight to Udon. People gathering to talk about it. vid out and about.mp4 The village Buddha is progressing nicely. Started the inside bit. Spotted a youngster building a house for her friend in Ban Dung. She's already moved in. Not a mobile in sight. Great!! Just a couple of Christmas hats to be seen. People are getting ready for the big celebration later this week. I've got me reishi wine ready. I'm limiting myself to half a litre a day. It's not that strong; about 25% I reckon. But it's easy to add a bit more Lao Khao if I feel the need. Footy round up. Well played the Arges. Only the Scots played yesterday. Usual teams won. Why not play on Saturday and Monday? Sure they could! Most EPL clubs squads are huge. In years past, two games over holidays was the norm. I was in Liverpool one year and on Easter Friday Everton played away at Burnley; and won. On the Monday they played each other again at Goodison. I was there in a crowd of 73,000 to see The Clarets get their revenge by winning 1-3. Good week game in Manchester where City knocked out League Cup holders Pool; 3-2. Is Messi gonna stay with PSG for another year? He might be the highest paid footy player in the world if he does stay. Eat ya shorts Ronaldo. World scene. Zalenskyy flies to the US and visits congress. He gets to smack a wet one on Nancy Pelosi. I saw the pics. No tongues as far as I could see. More weapon money promised. but with the repub's now in charge they might find out where the dosh is actually going. Cold spell finished in the UK. Warmed up considerably in the last few days. That's Global Warming for ya. Abandoned my urine regime for the rest of the year. Fed up with constantly trimming my eyebrows. Start afresh the first month in 2023. That's just next week!! Time definitely goes faster as ya get older. Darts are on at the Ally Pally. I'm impressed with that big German guy. Finished 170 to win his round contest. World number 3, Michael Van Gerwen, the man to beat IMO. Still cold in our area. No rain; or forecast. That's 45 dry days. Last year's dry spell lasted 119 days. Keeping em crossed. Sipping me reishi wine as I type. And singing; '''Christmas day in the workhouse and the goose is getting fat;;;''' forget the rest. Only one thing left to say; Merry Christmas y'all. Popular Post owl sees all
Owl Log - 01-01-2023 - Sunday afternoon A new year starts today. I've made my resolutions and I'm ready to face what 2023 brings. Didn't start off that well this morning. Mrs Owl was out doing some Buddha stuff early on, and I had to wait ages for me cup-a-rosy. But she eventually came back and made one for me. No salt detected; sometimes put in by accident of course. Must be in a good mood I thought. But i had a little moan about waiting so long and pointed out that we all had our work, and I wouldn't ask her to charge the pick-up battery. Think she understand the jist of what I was saying. Some people had been using the corner of number one farm as a base, while they worked in the farm next door. Didn't mind one bit. That's common here. They had vacated when I visited on Wednesday. But the rubbish!! There's me thinking how nice it is to see no rubbish, and I get this. Never took long to clear it up though. I forgive them. Put the lilies into the ponds just a year ago. Talk about thriving! Number seven pond. Number six. Number five. There seems to be more cow herds about now. Always coming across them when I'm out and about, Last day at school in 2022 for Mildred on Thursday. Paid the owner driver his 650 baht for the month. Had a look at the Pond Buddha. Had a nosy inside. Big fund-raising thing over the New Year to get dosh to finish the project. I gave generously naturally. Can't wait for it to be finished. Some strange pipe-laying going on. On top of the soil. I'll watch progress with interest. I pass every day. Getting ready for the NY celebrations. Making the money tree for the procession. Imagine the scene. Sitting around the table. Food and Lao Khao in plenty. Music blaring out. Kids still bouncing. vid kids on tramp.mp4 Big market in Ban Dung all the week. Plenty of goodies to be won. If you could find a sharp dart and could throw straight. Great dart player that I am, saw the stall-holders at my mercy. Can't have enough teddies. Footy focus. Just hand over the EPL title to Arsenal now. The Cottagers have back to back wins. Irons flop again and close to that danger zone. Moyes out!? Leeds hold high-flyers Newcastle. Pele dies. One of the true greats of footy. By all accounts a nice guy too. Ronaldo chasing the oil-money in Saudi. Owls on a roll. Could make it three from three if they beat Cambridge tomorrow. Good holiday for them. 26k at the Port Vale game. World focus. Bad incident in a casino on the Thai, Cambodia border. Death toll still unknown. Elsewhere things much the same. Darts at the Alley Pally down to the last 8. Don't want that Gerwin Jones to win. Tennis starts in Oz soon; 16th of the month. Come on Novak Djokovic. Pound to the baht down to 41-6. Dollar also well down. Interrupted by a delivery just then. Another two pair of sandals for the Mrs. It's out with the hand-bags and in with the footwear. That's six pairs in the last month. Decided to be more scientific with my urine challenge. Must do a 'controll'. So it's just one eyebrow and the left armpit for a couple of weeks. Big procession through the village yesterday afternoon. Will do an Owl Log special on that later today. Still in this cold spell. Every morning down to 12/13C. Was very worried about the Mekongs in the week. Went on Tuesday and didn't see one. On Wednesday, I went early and sat by the pond of an hour. Very quietly they started to show; but only at the far end. Didn't go to the farm on Thursday, as got back too late from Ban Dung. Mildred went with me on Friday and there were some encouraging signs. The fish responded to feeding after about 10 minutes. Still not right. We will see today. I know my fish and they have had shock. They are scared. Someone has thrown a net at the road end I reckon. They are wary. Will take a week to get them back to normal. But are they all still there? Still no rain. That 52 days now. Hope it's not gonna be as bad as last year when we had 119 dry-less days on the trot. Things to do this week. Visit Udon. Buy stone for the road. Set up water pump at the farm. Oh yes! Mildred wants a puppy. A friend of mine near Sawang Daen Din breeds Thai Rdge-backs. I'll pay him a visit this month. Maybe this week. Mrs Owl like Pugs; I do too. But don't know where to get one. i want to wish all of you posters that have kept this thread going - for over three years now - a happy NYD, and a prosperous 2023. Thanks for that Andy. To a degree, this thread keeps me out of trouble. Without it, I'd have been kicked off a couple of years back. One of my NY's resolutions is to keep my 'Life Theories' off the platform (AMAP). And Andy; seeing as you say such nice things, I'll be rooting for an Orient vs Peacocks FA Cup final in a few months time. Haven't heard anything from GT, or Ody recently. Hope they are OK. If I can be wishing you all a prosperous NY in 12 months time; for 2024, I'll settle for that. Just have to take each year as it comes.
