Thai Post or Kerrys? Cheapest way to send items to Isaan

As a result of ending my lease, I have some bigger items I wish to send back to my wife’s village. A small flat screen tv, little sound system, some helmets and nick nacks etc. anyone know the cheapest way to send them ?

Post (not EMS) is cheaper.

Chances that she will actually get the things are higher with Kerry, especially if she has previously received things from Kerry, using the same address and phone number.

I sent a bicycle, boxed, from Chiang Mai to Chumporn in October. Kerry wouldn't take it because the box was slightly too big, by about 10 cm. I checked wíth the PO, too. Ended up getting the best deal from GreenBus. Maybe that company doesn't go to your destination. The point being, check with bus companies.

Flash Express is probably the cheapest option, no problems so far, usually arrives within 1-2 days

Yep i have had stuff sent like that at a cost of 100 bht but a bike may be higher , never the less it was excellent coms service.

green bus charged me B900 to send a bike and all my belongings in three quite large boxes from surat thani to chiang mai. i had to get the consignment to the bus station and collect from bus station but it did arrive the very next day.

As far as I know, Kerry’s don’t really take bigger packages. 
Inter express logistics is your cheapest option, wether or not there is a depot close to you is another matter.

You are looking at less than 1/3 of price of Kerry’s - sister in law sent a glass display case and it survived - we were impressed. I have sent heavy crates of household items when moving - no problems.

They are more of an industrial style operation rather than domestic, like Kerry, so expect to take your gear to a warehouse somewhere and search for a person to help you, but they are reliable.

The gf has posted (with the PO) motorbikes and couches from Phuket to Loei without problems. Can't remember cost, but surprised me with how cheap.  Plus or minus 1000 is in the ball park.

I need to transport a wooden crate 1.3 x 1.3 x 1.5 metres weighing 500 kg from Bangkok to Sisaket. Anyone got any ideas on an English speaking freight forwarder?

By the way I tried Inter Express Logistics, unfortunately too heavy, the limit they gave me was 70Kg. But service was great.

Express Mail Service. It's fast and registered and more expensive.

Use regular parcel service and don't forget your passport.

Good idea. I’m in Krabi so it would have to go to Bangkok first then be transferred over to a bus to go to Surin. Not sure if that’s possible?

Good information in this thread.

The OP is talking about a small flat-screen TV, and some miscellaneous smaller items.

For that kind of stuff, I would recommend ThaiPost.

You simply take the lot to your local PostOffice, and select there a carton box that will fit everything.

When you have fragile items (like the TV) they invariably help you pack it with newspapers and bubble-foil at no extra cost.

No need to take the EMS as their parcel service is - in my experience - just as reliable and quick.

Once sent a 1,2 meter high Lao buddha-statue weighing almost 12 kilograms from Mukdahan to the small village near Khunhan where I live (approx 300 km).  Was delivered 2 days later at the door, and did cost me approx 500 THB, including the box.  The postal guy had been busy for almost 15 minutes to ensure that it was securely wrapped and protected from damage.  Impressive!

>> Note: When I arrive from Europe with my heavy suitcase full of goodies, I often make use of the ThaiPost office in the Airport.  The cost of sending it by Post is a lot cheaper than having to pay for extra weight on connecting domestic flights (and of course with the ease of traveling lighter once you arrive in Thailand).

A month ago my wife and I decided to take a short train ride with our little Yorkshire terrier. The fare for the two of us was B36 return (B9 each way per person) from Lampang to Khun Tan, Our dog, weighing less than 4 kgs was considered as "freight", didn't occupy a seat, did not leave the lap of us and occasionally looked out of the window.

 

What do you think was the charge for the dog?? Yes, she had an official ticket for the outward trip and another for the return.

Thailand Post has a website. It's in english,sort of, a mix. But you can find the prices.

Seriously if carrier pigeons are not available a cheap way for large heavy items used to be logipost or logicpost I can’t remember the spelling exactly but something like that. The Thai post office arrange it for you and its really cheap. I think it was 1200 baht to ship a motorbike. We sent a couple motorcycles and old sofas up to isaan a few times over the years. I call it the black hole where all things end up.

There was a seat available but she preferred our laps. No different from a new born baby, except she didn't pee or poo anywhere and didn't require breast feeding. In addition, she is so cute, (oh yes, so is my wife) that she was the entertainment darling of the carriage.

I thought the train fare to Khun Tan was free for Thai nationals.

It certainly is from Chiang Mai. (15bht for foreigners)

I didn't know that, but my Thai wife bought the tickets and she didn't mention it to me, though maybe she didn't know either. The point of my thread was more about my dog, that is very much Thai, born in Thailand from two other Thai dogs - well, one of them was a bitch! B180 return!

Was there some sort of mistake?
