PM orders gov't Economic Team to change plans

 

   

BANGKOK (NNT) - The Prime Minister has urged economic Cabinet members to change their operational approach to better drive national development inclusively, and ordered related agencies to tackle the unemployment crisis.

 

The Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha said today the government is giving high priority to the grassroots economy, farming, and unemployment issues, all of which require cooperation from all sides to find meaningful solutions.

 

He said economic Cabinet members have been urged to adjust their approach to address more issues, and to ensure continuous budget availability between the final quarter this year and the first next year, as the 2020 fiscal year budget bill is still under consideration.

 

On the unemployment issue, the Prime Minister said even though there have been some 1,000 factory closures affecting many employees, there has at the same time been the opening of 2,800 new factories. He said the government is prepared to assist affected workers, as well as fresh graduates facing difficulty finding employment.

 

On the utilization of the Social Security Fund balance, the Prime Minister insisted there is no intention of using that money for other types of spending, however there have been proposals on how to make use of the funds to maximize profits. He said there have so far been no orders except for further studies to take place on legal feasibility. The Prime Minister has asked for this matter to be reported accurately, insisting that the government cannot use this money for any other purposes.

 

On the controversy over the legitimacy of the Palang Pracharath Party MP Pareena Kraikup’s ownership of ALRO land, the Prime Minister has ordered an investigation to take place, and asked the National Land Policy Committee to look into the matter.

 

He said the committee will look into maps to sort out any land rights overlap, ensuring that all comply with the law.

I would be like rearranging the deckchairs on the Titanic, Thailand economy should be planned and executed by professionals and not political appointees and old generals, just take a look at what is going on with Thai International and this is pretty much a mirror of the thai economy, and if TG were not backed by the government money they would go under long time ago...

How does looking into maps sort out land ownership except by dictating?Maps don't have land ownership details on them.

When your economic team is being 'ordered' to change plans by an army man with little or no economic background, something is surely amiss. As for unemployment, how they have held together the notion that it is virtually zero is a wonderful arrangement of fantasy and fiction including that amazing idea that one hour of work a week is a job.

Not much different from the UK statistics, a zero hour contract and you are gainfully employed. The unemployment figures in the UK would be sky high if the truth was told. Every government does it.

Same could be said about the government; generals should be playing with the troops and the guns, submarines, APCs, and attack helicopters that they've wasted money buying instead of helping the economy, not pretending to be (terrible, incompetent) politicians.

So the Chairman of the Economic Management team orders a change in direction. A bit of grassroots tokenism never does any harm.

Forget about tourism, forget about the high baht and drop in exports, forget about car and parts manufacturing going into decline let's concentrate on all these the new factories and new employment opportunities for all those university graduates they are churning out by the thousands who can't find a job. They can always move into the shadow economy and get themselves food trolleys or sell fake imported clothes.

Khun Prayut Chan-o-cha's head must be spinning with the Thai economy collapsing around him and his country heading into recession along with the rest of the world. 

BTW, India has seriously slashed it growth forecasts. TAT might have to scratch them off the list as tourism's salvation.

- raise taxes for the wealthy by 20% and include universal taxation

- sell off all state majority-owned enterprises that have publicly-owned stock. 

- nationalize all assets owned by the military that are not already wholly government-owned.

And again brining up the UK as an example in comparison to Thailand! Are you insane? Trying to compare a 3rd world country to the GB meand you either know nothing or take soundbites you have heard and just spew them out. To use zero hour contracts and using it as a comparison to unemployment in Thailand is unbelievably stupid. I wonder what real experience you have. Note zero hour contracts  just means you can be let go at any time (thank the EU for that) you may work for aweek, a month or a year. An employer when they find good workers does all to keep hold of them as they are very hard to find.

They also have record breaking tourism numbers but need tourist crisis stimulus every few months
