Five immigration officers swoop! German on five day overstay arrested outside Pattaya hotel

Naew Na reported that a team of five Chonburi immigration officers arrested a 45 year old German national outside a hotel in Pattaya.

Bert E. was on overstay of five days and was handed over to the custody of the Pattaya police.

The arrest team was led by Pol Capt Prasert Chaiwong with four other colleagues.

They were sent into action by the chief of Chonburi immigration Pol Col Samphan Leuangsajjakun who in turn was acting under orders from national immigration chief Lt-Gen Sompong "Big Oud" Chingduang, said Naew Na.

The media said that the arresting officers were following the strict policy of the chief.

He took over at the helm of immigration following the sidelining of the previous leader Surachate Hakpan, known as "Big Joke", in April of this year.

Naew Na urged the public to continue making calls to the immigration police on 1178.

Naew Na did not give the name of the hotel outside which the arrest took place but said it was in the Na Klua area.

Nice, hope they root out all the over stayers.

given that guests have to show their passports when checking into a hotel it is a fairly simple task to identify an over stayer.

not sure if this really counts as news...

They are getting really serious about overstays now,

"The arrest team was led by Pol Capt Prasert Chaiwong with four other colleagues."

a hammer to smash a nut comes to mind, does it really need that many to arrest

one man, overstay seems to be up there with murder now.

As I said I can't wait for karma to visit certain folk on this forum

Karma is for people who do bad things (like overstaying, working without a work permit, not paying your taxes and let other people pay more)

You're missing the point, which is the heavy handedness of the Thai IO for a minor offence. That's the news. Be worried.

It takes 5 IO to arrest one 45 year old german man.  Why so many IO's.  Waste of the Thai taxpayers money.  Do they have more important things to do like check the TM30's for accuracy

People can still be pieces of excrement without breaking the law.

I rather have the feeling they don't look very hard for overstayers. Otherwise they should find more of them.

Coming to the guest house or hotel to you soon: Arrest the one day overstayer scum of the earth. This should send an iron fisted message that hopefully reverberates to all who visit Thailand on a repeat basis. Make sure you don't even overstay by 1 hour or meet the boys who love you big long time.

Not that bad. But a photo of you with your face fuzzed out with your name and country listed, and then a trip to stay at the 5 star world famous IDC with a black listing and small to big fine. A beat down actually almost sounds better.

DEFINITELY this is news.  BIG news, even.

It means that it must be stressed to anyone who's even on a one or two day overstay, the type of overstay of which may people say "just pay the 500 Baht x 2 days at the counter when flying out",  should really not be checking into any hotel or other lodging provider that does things by the book, because hours later your details are in the immigration system, and they WILL pay you a visit.

I'd say that's newsworthy to a whole lot of people.

If a hotel uses the online TM30 system then it's a very simple task for immigration.

I think the takeaway is that Immigration are clearly changing their focus from passive (wait until you turn up somewhere) to active (making the effort to come and find you).

Well there you are Yinn. BTW, I like you as a vampire, but make Thailand Great Again too is fun as Trump is breaking the USA up as well. Not sure if only news in Naew Na as my Thai friends are telling me there is an anti foreigner movement rising. Even if this doesn't hit the main stream Thai outlets. then most all the other phone and media shots put into the internet or Thai news will have a huge effect.

It does to the Thai people because it vilifies the bad non SE Asia foreigner. Does not do anything positive.

I think these numbers are over inflated because they always change in 5 news releases every week from TAT. But you are correct, play by the game and be above board, but the reality is that even nowadays if you do that you can maybe still be hammered by the immigration and refused entry at airport, put in IDC for 1-2-3- 5 days or-weeks and returned home without ever stepping a foot into Thailand from the customs. And there are so many legitimate tourists who are wealthy and just like to come many time a year, but better to think otherwise and just spend money in a more welcoming country like Vietnam or Cambodia. BTW. This is nothing to do with the Thai people. Only the authorities. .
