WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump will deliver his annual State of the Union speech on Feb. 4 after accepting an invitation from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Friday.

Pelosi extended the invitation for Trump to address a joint session of the U.S. Congress in a letter that was posted to Twitter by her spokesman, Drew Hammill.

Trump's address could be a feisty one. The invitation comes two days after the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives voted to approve two articles of impeachment against Trump.

The Republican-controlled Senate is expect to hold an impeachment trial beginning in early January. Trump's ouster through the impeachment process appeared unlikely.

White House spokesman Hogan Gidley said Trump had accepted the speaker’s invitation to speak.

Everyone knows he wont be removed because the Republican controlled Senate and if he manages to get re elected then the world is truly screwed .

Yes of course he won't be removed (2/3 needed) but even getting a simple majority to convict in the senate would be seen as a MORAL victory, but of course isn't likely to happen either.

About MORAL: That is probably the first time I agree with those Evangelists.

Evangelical magazine Christianity Today calls for Trump's removal after impeachment

Yes that is heartening but he is an outlier. 45 mostly owns evangelicals and that's not likely to change.

Ha!  Pelosi has learned her lesson from the fiasco of last year.  Could it be she is falling into line after the "impeachment" debacle?

Only time will tell.

Being contrite and inviting President and Commander-in-chief Donald J. Trump to give his State of the Union speech is a good sign.

Looking forward to the President's speech!

Not to be contrary, but you may be misconstruing Pelosi’s intentions and her “contrition.” She is, after all, the smartest person in the room.

For sure the oldest. She’s out purchasing 80 B day candles for her two cakes to hold in March. Hope she makes it!

Good time for his arrest and removal during his waffle.

I'm sure she'll make it! And while she's elderly, she is still in her seventies (if barely) while there are plenty of geriatrics in Congress of both parties well into their eighties ...

Her 80th Christmas is next week. She is over doing it on the Botox as well and it’s a joke. The other 80+++ should be let go as well. It’s quite silly. They are often the problem in Congress. The state of the union I bet will have high ratings in Feb unlike former ones which were no go boring. There is a time in life when interests and hobbies and fun activities should be had. These 70 and 80+ year olds are not healthy to run government anymore.

Right. They have even been able to elect a dead pimp, so concerns about morality are not likely to prevent them from voting for Trump.

By the way, I checked how many commandments Trump has openly violated. I count 6 out of 10. ????

Same for Ruth Bader Ginsburg.  Past time to leave.
