The concept of saving for a rainy day

There is a fundamental difference in genetics for a race of people who have never really had to shelter much from the cold in terms of housing, clothes & even food choice. If they have nothing of value to steal they just share what they have

Unfortunately it's not easy to kill yourself these days and the chance of living but impaired is quite high.

We really need the government to make it voluntary and legal.

I wonder if those that fly in Pattaya consider the chances of hitting and killing someone else when they jump.

Yes governments should make it legal but it's 100 years away. Head to Cambodia, many people do

I think it's much closer than that. Once governments are trying to pay pensions for all the baby boomers and realising they can't afford it, things may change. That's my hope, anyway.

In case anyone wonders why I want an opt out, I KNOW what nursing homes are like, and that's where I'll end up if I don't check out before.

and nursing homes are very expensive. In the UK can be £1500 a week, yes a week. Not ideal when you would rather be dead most likely

What an entertaining reading for Christmas!

Yes, science and big business are doing us no favor by constantly extending life expectancy.

Plutarch, the Greek philosopher, said that "medicine makes you die for a longer time".

Thanks to "progress" we could adapt this and say that today "medicine makes you old for a longer time".

What I would call real progress would be to be able to say that "medicine makes you young for a longer time", which I will believe when I will see pro athletes in their 40s and 50s, competing in the Olympics.

For now, it is all about keeping everybody into their 90s in order to milk the cows to the last drop.

Meanwhile, the population has stopped reproducing (Africa aside) and is aging like grass becoming yellower day after day...what an achievement!

The only hope we have is for androids that can take care of us. I want one that is attractive, like one of those Japanese love dolls. I might be decrepit, but at least my "nurse" will be pretty.

i find it disturbing that even though they may have no money they will porn their gold to give to a "friend" or family member. Any money they get is spaffed up the wall.

If someone set up FREE classes for money management, no one would turn up

That is very true. I notice they are the happiest when giving away their money. That's not necessarily a bad thing, just different from where I was raised.

I wish I'd have the money that foreigners are losing in one day all over the country. Including houses, cars, buffaloes and motorcycles.

The things you mentioned are "assets". Investments even. They are supposed to benefit you in the long run, and actually save you money.

Do you think that all brand new cars in any country are bought by people for cash?

I would guess that a fairly high percentage are bought on credit, my daughter bought

a 4 year old Renault on "finance" and she's born and bred British (sort of, I'm half

Swiss and her mother's parents are both from Mauritius)

Still would be born and bred, if she was, no?

I stayed deep in Isaan on a part time rotation for 8 yrs. Quite often we'd have drinking sessions with Thai neighbors. Sometimes they would lay down 200-300 bht for the next store run which was a day's wage for most or at least a half day's wage. Work a half day cutting rice for 200 bht and lay it down for some beers instead of saving the money for later.

Sa Soi...…..:burp:

What do you think they were working for?
