Abortion Law in TH

Featured Replies

Do the international or gov hospitals perform abortions?

What is the law regarding this in Thailand.

2 places to turn to to get more info/ help:

1. Cabbages and Condoms, sukhumvit soi 12 (actually go to the PDA clinic on the same premises)

2. Klongtan hospital near Klongtan intersection

(in this order)

Thank you, how about Pattaya area?

Please see the pinned thread. With international hospitals it is hiot and ksis, depends on the doctor deciding the case fits the legal criteria and also being personally willing. Can be quite traumatic going from doctor to doctor in search of one, I don't recommend.

I would advise against Pattaya area, best to come to PDA in Bangkok (the first listed place above).

With that having been said and your medical knowledge - what is the current safest type procedure?

Is the medically induced via pill method the easiest and most effective?

It depends on how far pregnant and a variety of other factors.

Medical abortion (pill) will be effective in only 80 -90% of cases. Approximately 15% of women will nto fully abort and will still need surgical procedure. in settings where cannot be sure the woman wil return for follow up, inadvisable and in any case not usually available in Thailand.

i think PDA does only MVA (manual vacuum aspiration). Up to about 9-10 weeks only.

It is not the most effective, see Sheryl's post.

It is not the easiest, patient must be compliant,  take several pills in the prescribed order. MVA at PDA is easier,  takes just several minutes.

It is a DIY method, but only if medical backup (a decent hospital that can handle bleeding) is available.

It is not available in Thailand, only through grey channels.

Easily available in Cambodia. If this is relevant for you google Mary Stopes.

Neither PDA nor PPAT (they cooperate) run a clinic in Eastern Thailand.

Better go to Bangkok,  like Sheryl said
