webfact
Road carnage recedes but still appalling, minister admits By THE NATION Anupong Paochinda The total number of road accidents and deaths between December 27 and January 1 decreased compared to last year, Interior Minister Anupong Paochinda pointed out on Thursday (January 2). But he acknowledged that the government remains uneasy with the statistics from the first six days of the “seven dangerous days” of the New Year holidays because they are still much higher than those seen in other countries. He said his ministry would analyse the figures and devise more effective measures to curb accidents. “The ministry will compare the accident numbers on both main and secondary roads and determine which measures are the most practical in each case,” he said. The World Health Organisation in 2018 ranked Thailand the worst among 175 countries in terms of deaths and injuries in road accidents. That is that all the people in charge of the country, are so thick that they doesn´t have a clue about why. 9
Popular Post z42
What business does this corrupt fool have occupying such a critical position, and what good could possibly be done when abiding by the laws is optional, and the authorities are not diligent enough to really stamp it out. The numbers are fudged anyways and still utterly dreadful after the fact. I've seen first hand a ward full of vehicle crash victims, and the economic costs associated with the sheer numbers must be incredibly damaging.

First you must replace the entire RTP, top to bottom, with foreign trained, well paid and incorruptible police officers. To do THAT, you must replace the top three layers of Thai society with similar. It will never happen. Be honest, as a farang living here, you actually like many of the freedoms afforded you by the lawless and corrupt system in presently in place.....otherwise you would leave.
Odysseus123
Is anyone willing to put their life on the line for any Thai statistic? We will never know whether the carnage increased or decreased over this period-or,indeed,any other period.

spidermike007
And what are Anupong and the other incompetents doing? Nothing. There are dozens of measures that could be taken, if only they cared. How about getting the highway patrol to actually patrol the highway and pull people over for reckless driving? Ever seen that happen?

Ever seen that happen? They don't care-but neither do the Thai in my village. You should know that-do you personally know of any Thai that regards this slaughter as anything other being in line with their culture and society? I had to stop a drunken Thai man from getting into a canoe a fortnight ago-both he and his non-swimming girl friend were outraged after I tipped them out when they both refused to wear a life jacket. I have informed my Thai wife, her family and her friends "I shall not shed a tear for you-on account of your intellectual laziness, your lack of self responsibility (let alone for others) and your utter stupidity..." As another poster has pointed out (Spidermike?) these are franchisees and not really under the control of a national body... To come at the truth we should envisage the structure as this.. 1The army-Tesco Lotus 2.The judiciary-Big C 3.The police-7/11..("seven..")
