It doesn't take much to get used to it.

 

When back in the home country a few months back we purchased 5 of those internally foiled canvas bags from Aldi for about 50 baht each, they last for years and it's better than plastic being burnt, especially when this village in the year 2020 doesn't have a weekly garbage collection disposal in place because people don't want to pay for such a service, next time I will remember to move to the adjoining village over the bridge about 400 metres up the road, they have one, but I think the move would be more expensive...lol

Ive already seen motosais with shopping bags. Its free market time. When we were kids, we would mow lawns and carry groceries for pocket change. Expect to see folks with shopping bags at neighbohood groceries to bag and carry stuff home for a small fee.

This is my feeling on the matter too.  Nearly every food item and all cosmetics for sale in the supermarkets are wrapped in plastic.. and the plastic is much thicker and more weight than plastic carrier bags were.

 

Sadly, even people trying to stop using plastic will find it virtually impossible.  This plastic bag thing is a very small percentage of the plastic waste.  With all the oil and petrochemical companies constantly lobbying governments and having so much money to put into their business, its very unlikely we can stop this plastic pollution in the future.

 

It's weird how we have become so dependant of plastics over just a few years, when we did very well without it for thousands of years before!  

 

I am not that old, but remember the times when I was a child when fruit, vegetables, meat and diary produces were all wrapped up in paper.  There were no plastic drinks soda / water bottles at all.. they were all glass and recycled and had value.  It would be easy to go back to that way, but because some rich people are not getting millions in profit it wont happen, at the expense of the environment and the general population.

Not easy getting a wheelbarrow up and down the 3 or 4 steps that lead to most 7/11s

Adapting now thats funny. I will tell you how we solved the no plastic bag problem. Well we bring our own strong reusable bags thats what. Those with some cool bags purchased on Lazada and problem solved. These people bringing a wheelbarrow and sacks shows they havn't got the brains to work out what they need to do. Signs have been up in the shops for months now, there is absolutely no excuse for not being prepared.

This is what we used in Hong Kong (some models even have insulated compartments) but then there people walk home and the footpaths are smooth and level. If you wanted plastic bags they were 50c (2 baht) each.

Ok next time I will place my bags in a wheelbarrow to wheel them to my car so I can place them in the boot. Then wonder how I can get my wheelbarrow in there as well with all the shopping. Lol. Enough said I think
