Air quality unsafe in some Bangkok areas

The level of PM2.5 dust particles in the air in Bangkok and surrounding areas exceeded the safety standard, averaging 39-71 micrograms per cubic metre on Wednesday (January 8), according to the report by the Pollution Control Department.

 

They reported that the current level exceeds the safety standard value of 35 μg/m3 and is unhealthy for sensitive groups such as people with respiratory or heart disease, the elderly and children, who should limit prolonged exertion.

 

Some 15 areas that are reported have PM2.5 dust particles slightly above safety standards.

 

They are: Bangkhuntian, Bangna, Pathumwan, Thonburi, Ladprao, Wangthonglang, Pakkred and Din Daeng districts in Bangkok; Kloang Luang and Klong Neung districts in Pathum Thani province; Phrapradaeng and Paknam districts in Samut Prakarn province; Krathumbaen and Mahachai districts in Samut Sakhon province and Meuang district in Nakhon Pathom province.

This article downplays the severity of air pollution. The air pollution especially in the morning is way higher than 35mg/m3. It is well above 100 mg/m3 in many areas. And this happens almost every day.

Bang Na, where I live, is listed in the affected areas. This morning, walking to the bus, the air was toxic. I could practically taste it. "Slightly" is BS. My lungs feel like used tea bags this morning!

Lovely "High Season" weather. The only time it doesn't <deleted> down or you get cooked alive, you'll get cold smoked. What's not to like?

Another air pollution thread?  Can't it just be accepted that the air quality here is disgusting and usually unhealthy, just like many cities around the world.  Wear a mask, buy an air purifier, or find somewhere that has cleaner air.

We are witnessing an airpocalypse. And absolutely nothing is being done by the indifferent authorities. The pollution here is getting significantly worse each year. In terms of air quality the only difference between Bangkok and Beijing now is the Chinese authorities who are taking it seriously and coming up with solutions. Woe is Thailand with a hapless army in charge.

Might be easier and a shorter list if they just indicated where the air wasn't over the limits.... uh, standards... there seem to be no limits

Previously studies had linked PM 2.5 pollution to a wide variety of maladies, ranging from heart attacks and strokes to asthma and dementia, however new research found associations with a total of nine disorders, including dementia, hypertension and kidney disease, making Thailand an ideal retirement destination! ????
