Big Oud and his smart car leads to arrest of seven illegal foreigners

Immigration chief Lt-Gen Sompong "Big Oud" Chingduang presented details of the capture of seven illegal foreigners in Khon Kaen province in Thailand's north east.

He was standing in front of a vinyl board that said one of his "smart cars" was instrumental in the arrests.

The "Rot Atchariya" was used when police stopped a bus in the Nong Phai area of Khon Kaen and found Hue, 32, on overstay and Thong, 26, an illegal immigrant. Both are from Vietnam and were headed for a natural border area to cross abroad.

Their arrest led to 5 more Vietnamese being arrested at the Khon Kaen 3 bus station. Thanh, Lam, Loc, Hung and Nam were busted on overstay and handed over to the Khon Kaen police.

They likewise were headed for the border in an attempt to sneak across.

Can this incredible device be placed in a laptop or mobile phone? This way we can hear about more fascinating arrests from the "magic phone". And if the system goes down they can look at the person's passport stamps- also instrumental in detecting illegal immigrants

And no smart car needed as the immi office is upstairs

In the light of "Big Joke's" remarks it is suspicious how often the ingenious function of bio-metrics and smart cars (BMW 5 model) are emphasized.

Nabbed on the way home ? I guess if you're trying to sneak out from swampy on an overstay you may be paraded first to the cameras soon then

So the IMO's travelled in style in a BMW to get to Khon Kaen? I see one BMW smart car every night at 1600 on same route from CNX IMO along canal road taking the big minions home.

Do we know much about this Smart Car? As far as I can tell it is a guy sitting there with a laptop and a wifi connection. Is that it?

Ridiculous - nice cars for their pleasure.

A laptop would do for the same purpose

How many cars were involved in how many nabs per car?

Got it in one... the car itself is standard!

Just an excuse to get himself a new BMW.

His car is not so smart as it will only catch a tiny percentage of illegals.

The long border is obviously porous and impossible to police. Vietnamese come in on a tourist visa and stay as long as they like. Then just walk back over the border.

I recall watching the Cambodians crossing the border under a bridge, like ants, carrying smuggled goods. Either end of the bridge were Thai and Cambodian immigration, oblivious to all going on below.

They have blacked-out windows, how can you see who is inside, never mind what their rank is?

What's a "big minion", they're either "big" (high ranking) or "minions" (servile dependents), can't be both, by definition.

So they stopped a bus and used a computer installed in their car to check those people's immigration status? That makes this car a "smart car"? I'm with Big Joke on this one.

I feel sure it would have been cheaper to just take their details and  watch them across the border with the proviso that if they're ever seen again. they will be shot on sight.

I would like to have a smart car just like Oud.

Yes the car isn't smart, more a mobile immigration office, a bit like the UK police

being able to flag up insurance sand tax details from registration plates, I can see it as

a good thing from an immigration point of view.

It does seem odd that the foreigners arrested were from Vietnam, according to many

here, Vietnam is the land of milk and honey, superior to Thailand in every way!!

"Big Oud and his smart car ..."

Like this?

I suppose he and his posse could all fit in a Smart Car.  World record is 20 cheerleaders.  Wish I could have been the 21st person ... or at least one of the packers.

It's still a big step up from 2 guys sharing a scooter.

Now if they could just get traffic enforcement into smart cars.  Or any cars capable of pulling drunk and crazy drivers over instead of waiting for them to stop at a checkpoint.

Desperately trying to justify the purchase of a fleet of BMW...... buying high end toys (submarines etc) whilst a large percentage of the population live under tin roofs is something you’d more likely to see in a failed African state.

Its so smart there's a vinyl printer in the boot said number 1 in the photo secret agent alias Fred Scuttle.????

Yeah, but that doesn't rate big printed fancy boards and justification of many large brown envelopes and lunch boxes.
