webfact
Air quality level in Bangkok remains unsafe in 15 districts By THE NATION The air quality level in Bangkok has improved in many areas but still exceeds the safety standard used by the Pollution Control Department (PCD), the Bangkok Air Pollution Coordination Centre reported on Wednesday (January 22). Citing statistics from the Air Quality and Noise Management Division, the Centre said in many areas of Bangkok dust particulate matter not more than 2.5 microns in diameter (PM2.5) exceeded the PCD’s pollution standard of 35 micrograms per cubic metre (µg/m3). Fifteen districts have been reported as having unhealthy air: Wangthonglang, Bang Kho Laem, Yannawa, Chatuchak, Bang Kapi, Lat Krabang, Khlong San, Bang Khen, Khlong Toei, Bang Sue, Lak Si, Bueng Kum, Khlong Sam Wa, Saimai and Don Muang. Meanwhile, the application air4thai reported that PM2.5 level in Bangkok was at 21-63 µg/m3 on Wednesday, stating that the air quality is unhealthy for sensitive groups such as people with respiratory or heart disease, the elderly and children, who should limit prolonged exertion. The World Health Organisation prescribes PM2.5 levels at 25mcg per cubic metre in a 24-hour mean. Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) permanent secretary Silapasuay Raweesaengsoon has said that the BMA has been monitoring the PM2.5 situation closely and has assigned all 50 districts to increase the frequency of cleaning the roads and pavements to reduce accumulated dust. “Areas that have high levels of PM2.5 were advised to use water trucks to spray water in the air, which should help in trapping the dust particles,” she said. “Moreover, service vehicles of the BMA must be properly maintained and have their emission levels checked regularly, while drivers were told to turn off the engine when the vehicles were not in use or while parking.” “People can check the air quality reports via several channels provided by BMA, including the website www.bangkokairquality.com and www.airqangkok.com, or via the application BKK Connect, which updates three times a day -- at 7am, noon and 3pm,” she added. “Furthermore, the BMA is developing a new application called 'AirBKK' dedicated to monitoring air quality specifically in the areas where there are no air-quality measurement stations.” Source: https://www.nationthailand.com/news/30380903 -- © Copyright The Nation Thailand 2020-01-22 Follow Thaivisa on LINE for breaking Thailand news and visa info
Popular Post spidermike007
Construction sites are a very minor issue. Sugar cane burning is a major issue. Is anything being done about that? Are alternative crops being encouraged? Are alternatives to burning being discussed? Are current penalties against burning being enforced, by an administration that is famous for a lack of follow up? What about diesel? Thailand is one of the few nations in the world that is actively promoting the sale of diesel vehicles and trucks. Most other nations have figured out how much of a hazard they are to humans. When they are not maintained properly (how many Thais engage in regular maintenance on their vehicles?) they spew excessive PM 2.5 into the air. How about converting the diesel power plants to natural gas? What else is being done by this stunningly incompetent administration, and the non visionary leaders within the hapless army? They are literally killing the people with their indifference and lack of planning. The army needs to resign now. They need to admit to massive failure, on an epic level, and get out now. They used to be an institution that commanded some respect. That has been lost. They are now perhaps the most despised institution in the nation. They are the DNA. The do nothing army. 2
Popular Post unamazedloso
More dribble to make people believe somebody is doing something. Reporting figures up to half of what they actually are and not stopping the burning is a criminal offence is it not? Why is the nacc not looking at prayuts bank for bags of sugarcane money to murder the population because that does seem to be whats going on here. All these idiots have access to tractors because they plow their fields to plant crops. Plow the dam leftovers back in to the soil, leave it for a couple weeks, plow again to be fussy but once is enough. Its what we do. You will need less fertilizer. Lose a couple weeks to a month but still get crops same time each year???? I dont get why these idiots refuse to do it? They cant afford ciggarettes or something? 3

This is for failing in his capacity to run the nation, and even make a modest attempt to clean up the air, and prevent his people from perishing.

You are not able to eliminate all Thai tragedies, what you do is give only wrong information, instead of spending time inventing busted stories, find the solution to your problems! I would have some advice, but, since I am just a farang who has no rights and the Thai people know everything much better, I keep silent and critical!
Destiny1990
Seems like double standard they know the main cause of the bad air but still allow it to continue. then if a tourist dares to smoke a cigarette on a beach than its suddenly a big deal and he can be fined 100K or 1 year in jail or both.
