Anutin Charnvirakul

The government is considering suspending the visa on arrival facility for Chinese tourists due to the outbreak of coronavirus in Wuhan, Minister of Public Health Anutin Charnvirakul said on Thursday (January 30).

He plans to propose this measure to the Chinese government, asking them to verify that tourists applying for visa on arrival have no risk of infection.

A plane to evacuate Thais in Wuhan is now ready but the government is still awaiting permission from China, said the minister.

“I will travel by plane to Wuhan since I have been appointed by the Cabinet to take care of this matter,” Anutin said. “We will leave no one behind.”

Until now, 9,239 people around the world have been infected with coronavirus and 170 have died. Thailand is the country with the second most number of infected patients, totalling 14.

Just put a block on travel to and from China for now. Better to err on the side of caution.

That was the number of suspected cases 3 days ago, confirmed cases are at about 7800 at the time I'm writing this.

Oh stupid me, the country will lose money, and that cannot be allowed to happen.

So what if a few die just collateral damage........ Pathetic situation.

Put a stop to the poluttion why your at it. Killing more people than the virus sofar.

Stopping chinese from coming is just commonsense. These guys just cant put on their big boy pants and make big boy decisions.

The death rate is now less than 2% of those infected.

Out of the confirmed cases in China, more than 1200 are considered to be in a critical condition (according to Thailand's own official report). The situation is serious and I hope someone understands this in the gov, this is not just a flu.

In Thailand here's what today's report states: since the beginning 44 lab tests came back negative, 14 positives, 144 still waiting for results. 27 people are currently in isolation rooms.

With potential infection not showing up  until weeks later, you are going to have to impose a interview and month later collect system

Lets see if any rich and important people die then we might do it, eventually ????

I read somewhere that People in Thailand who had the virus had become well and were sent home. My question is if you recover from the virus do you immediately cease to be a carrier ?

They let a boat land in Phuket with 1200 Chinese on board

As usual, dragged kicking and screaming to finally move toward doing something they really didn't want to do, an oft repeated pattern here...  Leading from the rear.

So basically, he's asking for permission, from another nation's government to change his own nation's visa laws.

Not going to happen. Ever. No one takes responsibility here.

Stop the flights completely. Nothing to add to that, it's simple.

Is that same type of 'consideration' given to stopping the TM6 and 30?

If so, don't hold your breath ..... but on second thoughts, do just that until the bat eaters go home.

Yep. Absolutely stunning, isn't it?

It takes about 8-11 days for patients to go into critical condition with this virus. So the deaths should be compared to what the possible number of infections were about 10 days ago. And it is looking bad, 2-3 percent mortality rate. Similar to the infamous Spanish flu.

Comparisons  to the 1918 Spanish flu is a bit of a stretch isn't it? Medical interventions in 1918?

Don't spoil it for him. He went out and got his Chicken Little outfit especially

Perhaps you could get your facts right. http://www.influenzavirusnet.com/1918-flu-pandemic/mortality.html

It's also considerably less dangerous than SARS - that was close to 10%

Even one percent is ten times higher than the usual seasonal influenza. If there are about 2000 deaths by next Wednesday then it is gone geometric and nothing can stop it anymore. Almost three million airline passengers per day will make sure of that.

The death toll from SARS was also exacerbated by the fact that it was not revealed early enough  although recognized. A Mistake that the Chinese  have not repeated this time.

Are you aware of the annual death toll caused  world wide  by the "conventional " influenza ?
