140.000 people hospitalized and more than 8000 people died of the virus in the usa alone!

not talking about the corona virus but about this years ongoing influenza epidemy...

so the usa cant control a returning yearly deadly epidemy causing thousands of death, yet all here are bitching about Thailand with zero death.

Why not let authorities do their job and we just go on with our lives...

That big bad flu with its death rate under 0.01% compared to this with a death rate of 2%. Not to mention you can get a flu shot which makes 40% of people immune and lessons the affects drastically. If this blew up it would be way way worse then the Flu.

2%! OMG. Where's my hand sanitizer? There'll be more deaths on the road in Thailand than from this virus in any given period

Not sure i am correct, but it seems that China itself is restricting its nationals to go abroad.

AFAIK, only from the locked down areas overall, and then tour group travel at large. Not nationwide. And there are of course questions about just how well those restrictions are being enforced in China.

Don’t see any western countries taking any significant action in restricting the Chinese. The posters here should concentrate their vitriol on their home countries instead. Thailand doesn’t give a toss as to what expats here think.

Check the number of Chinese entering a country. Thailand is at the top, at most risk, they should take drastic measures. But you are right, west should act quickly and decisively and they haven't. Their only hope now is to be able to contain it, which likely won't happen because of lack of quick diagnostics. This thing will go round the planet in weeks.

At least 11%, similar to SARS. https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(20)30211-7/fulltext

Quote

Of the 99 patients with 2019-nCoV pneumonia, 49 (49%) had a history of exposure to the Huanan seafood market. The average age of the patients was 55·5 years (SD 13·1), including 67 men and 32 women. 2019-nCoV was detected in all patients by real-time RT-PCR. 50 (51%) patients had chronic diseases. Patients had clinical manifestations of fever (82 [83%] patients), cough (81 [82%] patients), shortness of breath (31 [31%] patients), muscle ache (11 [11%] patients), confusion (nine [9%] patients), headache (eight [8%] patients), sore throat (five [5%] patients), rhinorrhoea (four [4%] patients), chest pain (two [2%] patients), diarrhoea (two [2%] patients), and nausea and vomiting (one [1%] patient). According to imaging examination, 74 (75%) patients showed bilateral pneumonia, 14 (14%) patients showed multiple mottling and ground-glass opacity, and one (1%) patient had pneumothorax. 17 (17%) patients developed acute respiratory distress syndrome and, among them, 11 (11%) patients worsened in a short period of time and died of multiple organ failure.

But hey by all means go lick the door knobs. Just do everybody a favor and lock yourself in for the next four weeks after that.

Nobody needs to be isolated for 2 weeks, a coronavirus test can be performed in 24-48 hours.

Tell that to Thais. The backlog is growing at the same rate as new suspected cases for days now: https://ddc.moph.go.th/viralpneumonia/eng/situation.php

It's starting to become obvious they are stalling the results to protect their all-overpowering need to get the TAT arrival numbers up.

True but if the queue for the test goes down the stairs, 4 times around the block, halfway down the high street and is 4 people wide that time scale may get stretched a bit.

Wrong! British Airways was among many European and American airlines to suspend ALL flights TO and FROM China! I believe the first could have been Finnair from 28 Jan, but the rest all followed suit within  a couple of days. Just a quick check on one website reveal at least a dozen European airlines that have now suspended flights, and also the USA, and Canada have followed suit.

I wonder how long it will take Thailand to "grasp the nettle"?

Too late. Should have been done in 1998.

In what parallel universe do people really believe that the Chinese officialdom are giving out correct and believable numbers relating to this virus????????‍♂️

They couldn't even if they wanted to, the diagnostic and health care system is swamped, I doubt they are very concerned about doing paperwork at the hospitals.

Are you doubting the Glorious Communist State?! The Chinese patients are the most healthy patients in the world!

Sorry, but Anutin Charnvirakul is either totally ignorant or a complete idiot.

  • The visa issue is a matter for the foreign ministry and not on his plate.
  • If he travels to Wuhan or not will not make a difference; having said that I suggest he starts studying the timetable of the State Railways of Thailand.
  • The evacuation of Thai citizen is not an issue for the Chinese government; many other countries got their people out already. Decision to get 'em out is a Thai thing; the Chinese would NEVER risk an international bashing over the fact, that they would not allow a rescue flight.

Wondering if he is waiting for Santa Claus or the Virgin Mary, seriously!

True and that is also why all the people comparing this to the Flu and saying it is nothing, should sit back and think a bit.

The danger in this is not so much the amount of people that die, but the many people who need medical care and get critically ill. Many people with other deceases, will also die due to lack of treatment and ressources.

Wuhan is a clear example of what will happen, when this gets out of hand. Thailand has not yet realised this and it is already too late here. The outbreak is a reality in Thailand and MANY more infected will show up.

"Speaking at a news conference in Geneva, Dr Tedros (Adhanom Ghebreyesus) described the virus as an "unprecedented outbreak" that has been met with an "unprecedented response".

He praised the "extraordinary measures" Chinese authorities had taken, and said there was no reason to limit trade or travel to China."

And this from the chief of the WHO!!! (World Health Organisation - not the rock group!)  Am I missing something?
