Torture victims press for legislation

A network of human-rights lawyers and victims of torture has submitted proposals on draft legislation against the use of torture to Piyabutr Saengkanokkul, president of the Commission on Law, Justice and Human Rights.

 

The network also plans to push for legislation against enforced disappearances.

 

The International Commission of Jurists submitted recommendations last year to a committee considering the bill and urged that the draft be swiftly approved so that Thailand is in compliance with its international legal obligations.

I was hoping it might have to do with the CIA "black site" torture center "near the airport" per reports. But this will do.

Unfortunately the law is just a tool here, not a code to abide by. We've had many examples of things already illegal taking places all over the country and at every level, embezzlement, encroachment, corruption, cover ups, ...
