Hi,

Been trawling through the forum posts trying to gain an understanding re the new visa system .. !!!

I wonder if anyone could give me a few pointers in my case ?

I will be travelling to Thailand in July this year from the UK, I would like to get a one year multi entry visa as opposed to a 3 month toursit visa as I would like to see if there are any business opportunities in Thailand whilst also seeing some of the country.

If when applying for a one year visa I could show that financially I would not be a burden on the Thai goverment would this help in anyway getting a one year visa ?

I have some friends ( non thai ) in Thailand but the are not resident in Thailand so I am not sure if that would help in the " visiting friends or family " category in the one year visa bit !

Any help much appreciated, many thanks in advance.

There is no such thing as a one year visa, there is a Non Imm visa which is valid for multiple entries but each entry is valid for only 90 days. If you get one of these then you can stay for a year but must leave the country and return 3 times.

Actually visiting friends is not a reason for getting a Non Imm O visa but visiting family is.

Having said that I hear from this forum that the consulate in Hull may or may not issue for the reason you state.

Failing that you could get a triple entry tourist visa which, with extensions, will give you 9 months in Thailand for just 2 exit runs. If you needed another 3 months you could get another tourist visa at a consulate in a neighbouring country or simply re-enter 3 times on visa free stamps 30 days each time.
