BANGKOK (NNT) - The government has given high priority to health promotion and disease prevention among the working population. It has ordered companies to take care of employees physical and mental health, as the workforce is a key driver of the country’s economy and society.

The Ministry of Public Health has awarded companies with excellent compliance with the ministry’s 10 packages for health promotion at workplace, in a ceremony attended by executives from government agencies and private companies.

The Minister of Public Health Anutin Charnvirakul praised workplaces that have shown close attention to health promotion and disease prevention among the working population, estimated at 56 million persons or two-thirds the national population.

He said the working population is considered a major driving force for national productivity, economy, and society development. This the government has given high priority to promote better living quality for this group as well as all Thai people.

The working population, who are subjected to no less than 40 hours office work per week, see an increase of health issues if they don’t take proper care for their health. The Ministry of Public Health will continue to promote the health of this population with continuity and sustainability, in order to achieve a goal from the 20-year national strategy.

The good news is that although Thai's may be in the office 40 hours per week, is that they are not working 40 hours per week...what with Facebook, Line, Instagram, Tik Tok and selfies, the barely work half that...

Yes, get out there and exercise! They had organized and blocked off the road for a half marathon run yesterday where we are. The weather was perfect and only 267 AQI 2.5PM at the time! An uneducated and totally uninformed public needs to stay fit after all.???? Meanwhile Nero fiddles.... ????????????

How does a person in this country have mental and physical health when the government allows such high levels of pollution and rarely enforces its laws?

Such laudable platitudes seem to be at variance with reality. How about getting the said workers to work safely? In mind would be the obligatory wearing of crash helmets ( not the eggshells we all see) for riders and passengers. The factory security then denying access to work until they are seen to be worn before entry. Yes okay cynics amongst you will comment the helmet is donned 50m before factory gate. But what’s attempted here is to create a mindset and attitude to a healthy lifestyle.
Could apply the same to the many , supposedly intelligent students, who seem more concerned about ruining their hair and macho image by wearing a helmet , to gain access to the campus.
Just a thought

First start then with education, to tell workers they can refuse work if it is to dangerous to do that work.

Last year 4 people died, when working in a sewer. You know how that goes. One goes in, goes down. Another one goes in, goes down and again and again. 4 people died of probably H2S.

Investigators came and were already running around on the area !!

Then finally someone arrives and measured concentrations of the gas. Everybody needed to leave !

If you would have done it FIRST place, then 4 people would have still been alive.

Just last week a guy died as he has to climb up high to fix something. No harnas to prevent falling, so he falls down and is dead. He did it as his boss told him to do so

It is not wise to burn drugs out in the open and have your government officers there to witness it, due to  anti drug promotion.

It is not healthy for officers AND people in the area.

Specially chemical drugs can bring toxic gasses in the air.

Scaffolds being used of bamboo, it is strong ok, but you see the people balancing on it, no safety harnas, no place to stand on then the bamboo.

Ive seen a welder on it, one hand for holding , the other for welding, amazing!!

Many times electricity is a laughing matter, over loading sockets which causes fire, because they dont know (care?). Burning material piled up high, unstable and close to a light which produces heat aswell and eventually causes fire.

Ofcourse maintenance is an issue which the Thai doesnt have any notice about. If it works it is ok, but if it's save?? Safety is going down on costs and companies in Thailand lack safety.

Higher fines , penalties are needed to change the Thai way of working if you want to go home alive.

And most of all education, education, education !!
