BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thai doctors have seen success in treating severe cases of the new coronavirus with combination of medications for flu and HIV, with initial results showing vast improvement 48 hours after applying the treatment, they said on Sunday.

Air in six Bangkok districts at unsafe levels

The PM2.5 dust particle levels in Bangkok and its metropolitan areas at 7am on Sunday (February 2) ranged between 40-72 micrograms per cubic metre, moderately safe, but unhealthy for sensitive groups, according to readings by state agencies.

Thai Foreign Minister explains why Government cannot rush Wuhan evacuation

In an effort to answer those who have accused the Thai government of being slow to evacuate its citizens from the Chinese city of Wuhan, the origin of the growing coronavirus outbreak, Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai said Sunday that it is not a competition to see which country will be the first to evacuate their citizens. Instead, it is a matter of ensuring that Thai citizens there are safe and free from the virus when they return to Thailand.

MANILA (Reuters) - The Philippines on Sunday said that a 44-year-old Chinese man had died of the new coronavirus, the first fatality outside of China, prompting tighter travel restrictions for both Filipinos and foreigners.

DIT asks people not to hoard face masks

Plans to boost Thai tourism won’t benefit deserted Pattaya beer bars

Some Soi 7 and Soi 8 bar owners are estimating business is down 70 percent, attributing the plunge in business to fear over the Chinese coronavirus.

 

Pattaya tourism officials said they plan to boost efforts to attract Thai tourists to offset the loss of Chinese tour groups, but that’s not going to help complaining beer bar owners.

The increasing number of new coronavirus cases is expected to take a toll on the Thai economy, with not just tourism but manufacturing, exports, retail and agricultural sectors also feeling the pinch, an economist warned while calling on the central bank to cut its key policy rate to shore up the economy.
