No use giving out those cheap paper surgical masks. Yesterday after the government's masks announcement came out, I asked my Thai wife if she wanted to go and queue up for the government's drugstore mask distribution. In our case, we already have N95 masks and drugstore masks at home. And her answer to me was no, when out and about on Skytrain and MRT in BKK, she only wants to wear an N95 mask, not a drugstore mask. And I can't blame her or disagree about that! I helped her learn about the N95 masks during the past two years because of the PM2.5 air pollution woes here. So by the time the coronavirus came along, she was already well up to speed on what masks do what, and which ones work for what kinds of purposes. HHTel
Quote Thai Public Health Min Anutin Charnvirakul was handing out surgical masks today for people to protect themselves against the Novel #Coronavirus. What an absolute plonker. Maybe foreigners were refusing them because they know damn well that these paper masks are not going to protect them from anything. Well maybe air pollution but not from disease!

OffshoreMig
Close down the Bio Metric Data collection Centres in the Trendy building (Bangkok) and the one in Chang Mai. They are not needed anyway. Thailand already collects and stores bio-metric data in Thai nationals passports. These centres impose a significant cost on Thai Nations and are totally unnecessary and a serious risk to Thailand and the International Community. It cost Thai nationals hundred of dollars to attend these centres for what? Information that is readily available from the Thai authorities. Now it appears the west is closing its doors.https://www.scmp.com/news/asia/australasia/article/3048525/qantas-air-nz-suspend-china-flights-japan-declares Edited February 7, 2020 by OffshoreMig

trainman34014
The Thai's suffer from a far worse desease than Coronavirus; it's called 'Loss of Face' desease. When this Ministerial Misfit was handing out useless Face Masks and Farangs refused to take them instead of bowing and wai'ing like subservient Thai's, he couldn't handle the rebuke because anyone elevated to a position that he should never rightly be in on Planet Thailand is convinced he is some kind of Demi-God and everyone should be on their knees begging for his favour. Basically he lost the plot !

And the advice given by the WHO is that the general public should not wear masks unless they have a respiratory ailment themselves. In which case, the masks will protect others from the wearer not to protect the wearer. Their main recommendation is focused on hygiene. i.e. wash hands regularly and try to avoid touching your face. "It's just 'flu" is a throwaway comment. However, the influenza virus has been studied for decades and a lot is known about it. It is predictable every season. The vaccine, which only gives around 60% protection is modified twice a year to cater for the ever mutating virus. The problem with WuFlu is that we don't know much about it but it appears that 'flu is much more deadly.... so far.

mikebell
According to Bangkok Post, Thailand is number 3 in the Infection table. Number 2 in Road kills. Tourist minister; A-nut-in (Government) lost his cool at farang tourists who declined his kind offer of free useless face masks at a publicity stunt venue. He has since apologised on FB after someone pointed out these are the only tourists still coming to Thailand ... oh and the independent Chinese who are still being welcomed.

fhickson
watch out any place that serves you a drink with an uncovered straw the server either puts in the straw holding it by the tip, upper part or middle. whatever they have been touching all day goes directly into your mouth or drink... if you get a wrapped straw, you tear off upper part and remove straw with teeth, not your fingers... if you eat streetside you grab the tissue when taking spoon and fork out of the common till, not with your bare fingers...then you wipe the parts of the spoon and fork that goes into your mouth with a new tissue... when they serve you complementary water in the metal cup it always has a small straw in it (that they touched where your mouth goes), chuck that s**t... its hard to remember Edited February 8, 2020 by fhickson
