rooster59
Thailand now has 25 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, and its capital Bangkok is now considered the most at-risk city in the world outside of China for spread of the infection. Our Bangkok Correspondent Jonathan Miller has spoken to doctors and officials tasked with tackling the virus, who admit they may only be able to delay its spread rather than contain it. Popular Post ThreeEyedRaven
“we have done our best”, says Thai health minister Really? Handed out a bunch of masks that are pitifully inadequate, slagged off those who knew that and refused them, all the while trying to allow more virus carriers to come visit and spread the plague. If this is his best, you would hate to see what happens when they do poorly. 51 11

Popular Post rkidlad
Says the man who thinks it’s a good idea to keep allowing people in from mainland China because it will bode well for future China-Thai relations. Money, money, money. Absolutely disgusting. The only silver lining with this horrible virus (I’m actually talking about the corona one not Anutin) is that it could help topple the CCP and Thai Junta. 33

spinner2020
P*sspoor reporting too. Miller had the chance to actually confront Anutin and show him up but didn't want to risk his cushy posting here. And I haven't seen the racist stuff about throwing out farang reported in Europe. Anyone else seen any?
Popular Post darksidedog
After yesterdays performance, I don't think there can be many foreigners who will respect anything that comes out of the health ministers mouth. I note that when being interviewed he wasn't wearing a mask, not even one of the crappy ones he was trying to force people to wear yesterday. 16 2

Popular Post colinneil
Dont worry folks Prayut says everything 100% under control. Anutin is just as dopey as Prayut, ranting on about farangs, whilst not wearing his ineffective mask. How crazy is it when a man who has no medical experience is appointed minister of health. He must have handed over an exceptionally large envelope to get the job. Edited February 8, 2020 by colinneil 17

Popular Post BigBadGeordie
Clearly the Minister is well qualified to deal with health related matters. Anutin completed secondary education at Assumption College and higher education in engineering from Hofstra University in 1989. Anuthin was formerly an engineer, and has worked in many private companies including the position of Managing Director of Sino-Thai Engineering and Construction Public Company Limited. Popular Post fforest1
Well foks if it was those nasty farangs that were bringing the virus in to Thailand we would all be instantly banned and probably put into internment camps surrounded by barbed wire..........Instead of treated with kid gloves like the Chinese..

What I fail to understand is that most of us, farang, immediately understood the extent of the disaster that would occur if Thailand did not immediately close its airports, ports and land borders. But for some here on this forum and elsewhere in the Ministeres, as these were "farang" proposals, it was s*hit Here we are, uncontrollable situation, as in China elsewhere ......

We have the same in France, Italy or Germany and many other countries all over this earth ... Higher studies because you have to do it even if you have half a pea in the cranium; it's ok, mom and dad relationships will do the rest ... The Ministeres are filled with incapable people; ask them to screw the gas pipe onto the bottle; in 3 years they will still be trying because they don't know, having never learned it, that the screw thread is "upside down" 2
Beggar
I really start to feel pity with the government. There seems to be a lot of criticism here in this forum. So what would you do? You have two challenges - the health of the people and the health of the economy. What would be your approach? 1

Not sure where you get this from. Seems under control in Thailand s far as I can see. Numbers of infected are still rising in China, true, yet very small rise in infected elsewhere in the world. Thailand had 25 cases of coronavirus 2 days ago, those were mostly Thais returning from Wuhan/Hubei. No Thai has died, they have all recovered or are recovering Controls are in place, health screening at airports, tour companies not allowed from China. Yes there are still 40,000 plus Chinese vacationers or on long stay in Thailand, but no reports that they are infected AFAIK. 3

NOTHING is under control; you have to fit this in your little head Uncontrollable in China and this we knew from the start despite the official denials which have since become assertions. and nothing is in Thailand which has always refused to close its borders. No death in Thailand .. who told you ? the official newspapers which are of course "under orders". The truth always explodes even if sometimes it takes a little time and the two who put an encouraging smile on you will understand it too

All the foreigners understood is that they have nothing to lose if Thailand locked down the border with China. That makes it a no brainer for them. Unlike the millions of Thais who support their families with Chinese money. Meaning that it required no brain at all. Not some deep level of understanding. There's still a lot of questions whether the virus is worse than the panic around it. It'll be months before we know. saengd
Yes agreed, the hysteria, rumor mongering, panic and conjecture are worse than the virus could ever be and this forum goes a long way to helping that, why it is not controlled esca....actually no it doesn't!

Health screening, checking peoples origin of travel. Hubei province is where the people infected are. Hubei population is 4% of the total population of China. 1
Popular Post DLock
Why does he think his best is not good enough? Thailand has had zero new cases since the 5th February, falling from 2nd in the world to 5th and having the best recovery rate of any country globally. It's not just good. It's outstanding. He has done a magnificent job and really should be the advisor on a global scale on effective management and treatment of the Corona Virus. "It's simple", says Thai Health Minister. "It's very much like our road deaths, we don't count people who didn't die at the scene and it makes our numbers better" he said. "Same with Corona, we say they have pneumonia or lung disease, so we don't count as Corona. It's simple, but effective and genius". 3 2
