I flew in from europe yesterday and I got problems again

If one is now standing there, with Passport already Stamped In; why would I still stand there any longer?  and wait for angry face to keep at it like a headless chook?

oh yeah... make sure she sees you wet wiping the Passport cover Before picking it back up; to let her know that her grubby fingers on it have been noted.

But my point was that here on TVF it was repeatedly claimed, it would never happen to be asked for a return flight.

I have been questioned by immigration when travelling into the U.S.  And while such situations are never fun, the fellow that questioned me was polite, not angry and very professional.  

I always had to jump through loads and loads of hoops to get my multiple non-o...and then when i arrive the angry io-lady always askes me if i am going to work in thailand...i just say no and then she will ask me what i will do here and if i have enough money...to get my non-o i already have shown them loads of cash and i have plenty in my pocket as well.

 

I'm not poor at all and just hate it when they treat me like i'm a criminal...they can check anything on me, fine do it,  but after a long flight i just want to get stamped in.

am i understandig this right.  hadn't been to thailand in 8 years prior to the previous entry on an SETV (and extended).  so 90 days in country in 8 years and comes back for another 60, maybe 90.  something is seriously wrong here. 

 

edit:  maybe the lack of tourists is giving them extra time for interviews now.

64 days exact ....so total in 2019 and 2020 It will be 154 days when I go home after 2 months and a little.....well I must be a big criminal here......somebody they should decline....call his girlfriend harass her privacy - angry io lady stare....etc....I stayed in thailand before for like 3 years total in separate trips of course always on multiple entry visa.....nobody asked me nothing ...I stayed even longer....9 month one time...all legally. but that was like 9, 10 years ago....nobody dragged me away to some desk to try to find something and decline my stay.....you really feel like a target.....I suspect many people do in this case.....

yes cause I read on THIS FORUM that if you own a condo it is easier to get visa.....people posted this here few years back....

i was taken aside approx 10 yrs ago due to too many visa exempt entries.  the interview was very friendly, they told me to use tourist visas from now on (i was 43 then).  didn't ask me to show money or return flight.  this was BKK airport.  things sure have changed.  good luck on your next entry, you may be on the land border program now (sorry to say !!).

Wow if getting stamped in has created this much drama for you, I would hate to see how you would behave if you actually were rejected lol

I came in on an MT visa. That means MEDICAL. I handed the IO my papers including certificate from the hospital etc

The MORON asked me what I was doing during my visit in Thailand. I think my face told him everything he needed to know concerning what I thought of him. An absolute moron. That what you get when you spend most of your working life pretending that you are smarter than is actual.

The reason might be that you're palying by the rules.

I frequently fly out and in for many years now on my retirement extension and never had any issues.

BTW, if I would be an underpayed IO sitting in my cage all day long I might not be the polite guy I am ????

That's the whole issue here, those officers think they're quite something but the fact that they're doing that job tells enough about their education and wealth.

I think they're just after some cash to 'speed things up'.....but where i come from that's absolutely not done and i also refuse to bribe anybody at all...i made all my money legally, they already checked that at their embassy so why do they have to harass me?

 

But to tell you guys, it will get much worse if you marry a thai and want to get a long term visa...just saying. They will check you many many times, you'll have no privacy left, they will even come to check your bedroom to name something.

Oh please.... when have you ever seen an IO at a Bangkok airport smile. They think they are something special. But in the main, when I see the way that they carry out their duties, it's a surprise that they manage to tie their own shoelaces.

They bang on about damaging the image of Thailand. But fail to see that these goons who abuse their power are doing more to damage the image of Thailand than anything else.

 

It all depends on whether you choose to use love or fear to command respect. Fear does not command respect, just the veneer.

Do yourself a favor, 1st realise that the Land of Smiles is just a saying, the Land of Smiles as it is referred to is not because it is friendly, albeit it, is peaceful most of the time for us farangs, but it's all about the money honey, and if you ain't got any, you are pretty much in their league, worthless.

 

Don't invest in Thailand unless you want to lose your money, just rent and enjoy, because if you are feeling  a little off at the moment, it doesn't get much better, i.e. unless you keep to mostly to yourself or mix it up with other farangs, and if your girlfriend is guiding you to buy a condo, you might want to reconsider, I will leave that, at that, as there have been enough sad stories here on that matter ????

 

I agree things have changed, especially since the army took over in 2014, now the military is the government, perhaps you are not in tune with the reality's of living in Thailand, the squeeze has been put on farangs for a little over a year now as there have been a lot of overstayers, and of course, it is immigrations job to question people entering Thailand if they feel they have reason too, I won't excuse the cranky ladies tone and approach to you, however, they are not there to roll out the red carpet to you, you are a tourist, remember, Thai's don't like farang's, and upon entering Thailand, you got a real taste of reality from the lady who took a liking to you, perhaps previously you have only been seeing smiley faces, ah the Land of Smiles, they love me, perhaps it was your wake up call as things happen for a reason ?

 

Last but not least, ask yourself why do these people always smile at you, now if you can't work that out, then I can't help you.

Vietnam is changing from 1st July, and quite a few reports coming out of PI they are not extending peoples tourist visas....cambo seems the only option now, unless another continent.

I have to admit that in all of my years coming to Thailand since 2005, never had an issue with an immigration officer, smile, Sawadee Krup, Sabai Dee Mi, they lift their heads, smile and some even have a conversation with me in English, because my Thai is limited.

 

The above said, I do the same when entering my home country, when called to approach, Gooday, how's it going, head lifts, smiles and conversation starts.

 

I worked in the public for all of my years, it's all about approach in my opinion and being at the front line can be challenging at times, a little recognition and common courtesy goes a long way, and the day I get a cranky immigration officer will be the day I will find that to be my biggest challenge, albeit I would probably leave him be, step back, let him have his moment, because when someone throws a hot ball at me, I usually catch it and drop it as if to say, I am not playing your game, and smile.

When else are the immigration people going to check up on your legitimacy?

 

Do you want them to pop round to your hotel when you've freshened up and recovered

from your long flight?

You didn't read well...you think i live in a hotel while i'm married with a thai? We have a villa for that.

And yes they have been here at home to check EVERYTHING....after we had to show loads of things on photo to them, bring neighbours to get interviewed by them and much more.

 

But to make it all simple, they should (and do) check every tourist before they issue them a visa...but even the embassies ALL have different rules....the ones in Laos issue multiple non-o's without any proof of income, while the others want to see bankstatements and more proof of income.

 

It's just a big mess...

Security staff and immigration are completely different. Security has very little power over you except to make you throw away your expensive shaving cream because it came in a 150ml can instead of 100.  IOs are another level entirely.

 

Do you remember that line from the movie with George Clooney in the airport?  "Stereotype. It's faster."  Here is a word of advice when picking a line to wait to get stamped in. This comes from a lot of trips through DMK immigration. Never, ever get in a line with a female IO. Find the line with the oldest male IO and wait there, even if it is longer.  Women and younger officers feel like they have something to prove. Old men are just marking time. You want the guy marking time when it comes to stamping your passport.

 

No need to show me the exception to this rule. There's always one. I don't care. When you've waited in those queues as often as I have, you see the pattern.
