A grisly sight greeted police and rescue teams on Koh Samui after reports that a young father had committed suicide.

Phairat, 35, had used a circular saw to rip apart his neck.

He had done this at a carpentry workshop in front of his five year old boy and four year old daughter.

Na Naew reported on a tragic story related by the mother of the victim who lives close by in Mae Nam Soi 1.

Sai, 56, said that her son had two children with his wife Sunisa. But after the wife started a job as a caddy they began arguing frequently and this led to them splitting up a month ago.

On Wednesday night Phairat came to see his mother with the two children and asked her to make sure they were alright in the future.

She didn't believe he was going to take his own life but knew he was very depressed over the breakup.

He took the children with him back to the workshop and she heard the sound of the circular saw cranking up. She thought he was back at work.

Moments later the children came running to her house screaming that daddy had hurt himself and there was blood.
