Six Vietnamese fishing boats have been have seized and 36 crew members detained on Wednesday (March 4), Army, marine police and Pattani officials said at a press conference, for alleged being in Thai waters. Fishing equipment and a number of sea cucumbers were also confiscated.

This is the sixth time this year that Vietnamese boats have been seized, Lt-General Sophon Ratchapirak, Chief of Naval Staff Region 2, said. In 2020, Thai officials have arrested 14 alien fishing boats with 78 crew members.

Pattani public health officers took care to ensure that none of the 36 crew members had symptoms of Covid-19 or a history of travel to high-risk areas, the officials informed.
