Biden racks up endorsements as Sanders goes on the attack in U.S. presidential race

Technically Biden could choose Obama to be his running mate. Then Joe could turn into the potted plant he is and Obama could run the country again.

Maybe.

Maybe not.

But it's academic.

Even if Biden wanted to pick Obama as VP he wouldn't be interested.

Why?

Been there. Done that.

Obama is on record many times criticizing global leaders that cling to power for too long.

He's not the type to involve himself in such a constitutionally ambiguous situation.

I've voted all over the map; George HW Bush, Clinton, GW Bush, Obama I even voted to recall Gray Davis and voted for Schwarzenegger as CA Governor, that was a mistake btw!

This time, I really don't care who it is so long as it isn't Trump. I never thought that we could ever have elected such a vile individual as Trump.

Yet here we are, so yesterday I became a Democrat just so I could vote for Biden as the Democrat to fight Trump, because all I want is someone who has a fighting chance of beating Trump.

Yes it continues to be shocking that US sort of elected that specific man who is working so hard to undermine the core institutions of  American democracy. Putin is ecstatic.

That would be like asking for a medical report to prove he is caucasian.

This is one reason we have debates, so the public can see clearly a candidates mental clarity and abilities.

The other argument about Trump is nothing. You don't somehow miraculously prove Biden is mentally fit by deflecting to Trump. Argue the point on its merits.

If you can listen to a Biden gaffe real and say with a straight face this guy is not in serious mental decline to a level that would obviously affect his leadership abilities, you have problems.

Obama won't even endorse Biden. He wouldn't touch Biden with a condom on. Obama has enough experience with Biden to know what a loser he is.

555555....wish I could make a wager with you.  Obama will endorse the eventual Dem nominee.  Definitely Biden, but even Bernie.

As opposed to what? Endorsing Trump? You can wager with me anytime you want but I don't see any clever wager here. Obama would endorse a corpse when the dust settles.

A corpse for President would be a huge improvement over Trump.  I'm dead serious.

These people do not endorse candidate they actually feel would help, or candidates they like though.

They all endorse the candidate they get the most out of.

Endorsements are very powerful, but in a perfect world they would mean nothing to the people, because they are in fact simply bought.

I would not be at all surprised to see Obama endorse Biden btw, because that is simply what would be best for him financially. He wont get anything endorsing Bernie, that is not how Sanders runs his campaigns. My guess would be he will keep his mouth shut though, as you say, because Biden is a worse train wreck than Trump.

Of course he will endorse whoever the democratic nominee is upon nomination. There is zero doubt that. The reason Obama hasn't endorsed Biden before then is obvious. Doing so would have fed into the 45 / Putin / angry Bernie bros fake narrative that the nomination is rigged and being stolen from Bernie. Bernie is losing so far based on votes and delegates. End of.

Of course as long as that corpse is replaced by anyone but 45. Really. Anyone.

A candidate who has supported the Iraq war has never been elected. A corpse who did not champion the Iraq War may have a shot. Biden is about 3/4 of a corpse and he did support Iraq.

You are one of these strange cases where... watch out, you may just get what you wish for. Biden nomination leads to a Trump election. Come back to this post after the general, quote me on it. Deep down you know it too. The guy has "that look" that you saw in your grandpa's friends eyes... the one who just was not quite there.

As usual, I seriously cannot believe we are having this conversation.  Biden is obviously unfit. Even the DNC sees it. It could not be more obvious that they are willing to tank the general to avoid Bernie. Bernie would mean their donors and supporters would go away. Bernie would mean change back to an actual two party system.

Obama so far hasn't endorsed the man he ran with. It isn't complicated. Obama so far has not endorsed his own VP. That's the point.

The Iraq war statistic isn't much of a sample size.  Three elections, maybe?

As someone who didn't vote for Trump (or Hillary, I might add), I see why he got elected.  Both political parties ignored the middle class "average Joe" for many years and sent the message that the political elite knew better than they did.

I would have agreed with your assessment re: Trump easily defeating Biden until January, when the coronavirus hit.  People could separate Trump's policies and their results (mainly positive economic results) from his obnoxious personal behavior.

I think that's changed now.  The US has dropped the ball on the virus preparations, despite having had several months' advance notice to put safeguards in place.  The traits that propelled Trump to the top - his bravado and willingness to stand up to "career bureaucrats" - is not playing well to people who are fearful for their lives and the lives of their families.  Few people think the US has the virus situation "under control" or that Trump understands the magnitude of the situation.

If the virus drags down the US (and global) economy, then Biden wins.

This is 100% disqualifying. I would argue that anybody who can watch this video and still support Biden is doing their country and themselves a great disservice. This is only one of about five of his disqualifying attributes too, unfortunately.

Really, watch it, and publicly tell me you could vote for him in good conscience.

There's really only one positive argument that could made for Biden. And that is that he has made so many bad calls throughout his career and because this is the absolute end of the line for him, he will be more concerned with his legacy, which needs a lot of sanitizing than caving to establishment interests. I'm not expecting this but I'm hopeful of it. It doesn't make for a positive feeling when casting your ballot.

People won't vote for Biden because they like Biden.  They'll vote for Biden because he isn't Trump - just like they're voting for Biden in the primaries because he isn't a "Democratic Socialist" named Bernie Sanders.

That wouldn't be enough for me. It will depend on his running mate for me. It doesn't have to be who I wish he would choose but it has to be someone who can take over leadership over the party one day and turn it in a new direction. I have to laugh at those who think that Trump is a bad as it could get. It can always get worse and it always does when when we're forced to embrace the "least worst" voting rationale. I don't buy into that anymore.

True democracy:  You can either be democrat or republican.

Pathetic !

While that may be true in "title", it isn't true in practice.

Bernie Sanders has a lot of support - he's not really a Democrat, though he's attempting to run for the Presidency as one.

Trump is definitely not a Republican - but again, he's gained the Presidency by running as one.

The two major parties have the influence and resources, sure, but the people campaigning under the guise of their parties are not necessarily Democrat or Republican.

So which female running mate would you like on the ticket (either one)?  I ask because that's the trending theory - Biden runs with Klobuchar/Harris/Michelle Obama/Warren as VP candidate and Trump dumps Pence for Nikki Haley.

Don't be ridiculous. If Biden is nominated which of course now seems likely Obama will both endorse him enthusiastically and also campaign for him tirelessly. The very future existence of American democracy rides on beating authoritarian anti rule of law 45.

I wouldn't like any of them, but if I had to choose, Klobuchar. If he gets through the primaries, Biden's got to drop this whole Obama redux schtick. Sure, accept his endorsement and let him stump for you in appropriate places, but let's not forget, Obama was not a good president. He just had the great fortune to be bookended by W and Trump. Harris embarrassed herself in the debates and Warren lowers the average age of the running mates on the ticket to 75.

I think Biden ought to flip the usual Democratic presidential nominee script if he's to win. Normally they run to the Left in the primaries and back to the center in the General. He should stay in the center now and if he gains the nomination he ought to run to the Left some or he's going to lose an awful lot of voter turnout. There's this presumption that turnout will be big, because we have to get Trump out. I'm not sure that's so. It could very well be low if people have the sense their vote never mattered in the first place and Trump isn't any worse than the candidate from the party that allowed a Billionaire to buy election outcomes.

The future of American democracy rides on taking it back from monied interests who have purchased what now passes for American democracy.

Obama will not back anyone running for the candidacy until the actual candidate have been chosen.

Biden doesn't need endorsements.  He needs someone to make speeches and appear in public in his place.

There won't be any teleprompters in the debates.  Biden will be raw meat thrown in the Lion's Den.  The media will then proclaim that St. Joe is a martyr.

You don't know that. In the democratic party debates Biden has performed from OK to quite good. No not great. It's way way too early to conclude that Biden would lose to 45 simply based on debates. There is a lot more to this election than that. Also there is no guarantee that 45 will even agree to any debates at all. They are not a legal requirement. Like releasing tax records. Customary but not required.
