PATTAYA:--Pattaya’s government-sponsored Songkran celebrations have been canceled as a precaution against the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus, but the week-long Thai New Year’s water party will be hard to stop.

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Dozens of Thai lawmakers from a prominent opposition party that was dissolved last month said on Sunday they will join a new party together to keep their parliamentary seats.

70-80 Thai workers returning from South Korea 'have fled quarantine'

Deputy Health Minister Satit Pitutecha said on Saturday (Mar 7) that all Thais returning from South Korea from Sunday (8 March) will be transferred to the Sattahip Army Base in Chonburi province, to screen for Covid-19 symptoms. Those having fever will be sent to a hospital.

Search underway for 80 escaping Thai workers returning from South Korea

Authorities are searching for about 80 Thais who arrived, in a group of 200 on four flights, at Suvarnabhumi international airport yesterday after returning from working illegally in South Korea. They managed to escape from a restricted area as they were about to be escorted to Sattahip naval base for COVID-19 screening prior to being quarantined.

Poll shows 71.2% reject government cash giveaway scheme

71.2% of respondents, to a Super Poll opinion survey, disagree with the Government’s plan to give two 1,000 baht monthly cash handouts to low income earners, as part of the new economic stimulus package aimed at cushioning the impact of the economic crunch and the COVID-19 threat.

South Korea to launch online service for Illegal Thai workers wishing to return to Thailand

Govt: Covid-19 Fund established for public participation

(Reuters) - An ocean liner barred from returning to port in San Francisco due to a coronavirus outbreak on board will dock briefly at a nearby terminal in Oakland, where passengers will be screened and sent on to medical and quarantine sites elsewhere, officials said on Sunday.

CAIRO (Reuters) - Egypt reported its first fatality from the coronavirus on Sunday, with the Health Ministry saying a 60-year-old German tourist, who had arrived in the country seven days ago and was taken to hospital in the Red Sea resort of Hurghada, had died.
