That's not news. Politicians have suffered from the brain eating disease for as long as they have existed. They usually contract it in their teenage years. However it does seem to be an especially aggressive strain in Thailand.

I think he'll find most of the Thais in Chiang Mai are wearing masks because of the pollution not because of the virus!

And on what evidence do you base that generalisation? I shower, always have done always will. I imagine it is difficult for some tourists to shower when they are on day trips and excursions but that is life. The majority will shower as soon as they return to their accommodation.
