The government is having a dialogue with leading doctors in Thailand to discuss and find appropriate measures to fight the new coronavirus (Covid-19).

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha sat with five top doctors to hear their suggestions on the right way to deal with this virus crisis.

The doctors who attended the meeting were:

Clinical Professor Emeritus Dr Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn, the former minister of Public Health and former president of Mahidol University;

Clinical Professor Dr Udom Kachintorn, the former deputy education minister and former dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital;

Prof Dr Yong Poovorawan, an expert virologist at Chulalongkorn University;

Prof Dr Amorn Leelarasamee President of the Medical Association;

Prof Dr Somsri Pausawasdi, president of Medical Council.

These doctors have encouraged the government to issue new measures and implement decisions such as cancelling the Songkran holidays and closing entertainment venues to stop Covid-19 from spreading.

The government has been criticised and asked to find a spokesman who was not a politician because citizens see them as opportunists amid the virus crisis.

Take your time no rush.
I can't believe these top doctors have not suggested canceling tourist Visa.
You don't need a Phd to work that one out.

Issue is that the PM does not have a Phd.

... Neither anything else.

Cancel tourist visas? Why not also cancel retirement visas, marriage visas and working visas and send all foreigners back overseas to their home country with your genius suggestion of cancelling tourist visas.

And they wouldn't be far from reality with that appraisal ..

Witness the clown hyping up the Favipiravir anti viral drug yesterday on another thread .. An indy spokesperson unsullied or tainted by the circus in Gov should make daily updates on the situation in an honest and open way .. At a time like this citizens don't need manipulation of the truth by unpalatable politicians in an effort to save face and blow their own trumpets ..

Not garlic. But I wonder if the reason Thais are doing so well compared to the rest of the world is those funny smelling things they are always sticking up their noses (and I don't mean their fingers!)

Exactly.

Form a committee or three.

Hard to believe this guy was a Army General. Did they not have PLANS? I mean other than shooting their fellow citizens? Or letting the yellows comandeer the airport?

A 'Top Doctor' in Thailand is probably in most cases as good as a Hospital Cleaning Lady !

Hope you don't tell them that when you need one, yet Thailand is a centre of medical tourism , almost a "HUB"

I do believe Thailand is operating in a parallel universe. Look at every country in the rest of world, the way they are handling the situation and compare.

Also thoughts that tourism will return as soon as the vius is controlled is just plain stupid. People throughout the world are struggling to support their families, and millions are going to loose their jobs. The last thing people are going to be thinking of is holidaying anywhere.

Why cancel those visas when those people are already resident here they can't bring the Virus with them
Tourists arrive from every corner of the World and there's a chance they are bringing the virus with them very different scenario.
