This is going to get much worse and go on for a long time. When It finally ends,

most people will not be able to afford to travel on holiday to Thailand.

Too true tourism is toast for the foreseeable.

Those IO's at swampy must be getting bored, nobody to harass and refuse entry.

Imagine the lot of them seeing one lonely incoming traveller and starting to fight for the privilege. The fella might just be able to sneak through while they are having a fist fight.

TAT has been sitting on their ' high horse ' for much too long .

They took the 40 mio annual tourists for guaranteed income , nobody ever could have thought that something would happen to significantly decrease these numbers .

Now it is time to adjust .

Welcome to reality .

Even if there were no tourists, there would still be millions.  It just won’t be told from where they have come TAT

Perhaps the richest family in Thailand could announce a plan to start sharing their wealth through direct monthly support payments to all the Thai citizens who are becoming temporarily unemployed because of the CV outbreak....

It would be mere pocket change, comparatively speaking...

Thailand is basically a series of interconnected local henchman fiefdoms - with mafia figures in various uniforms of differing sorts. In good times they smear a veneer of thinly disguised civility and bogus Thai culture memes. With what's coming they will revert to type - expect a series of heavily armed and supplied warlords controlling their areas with normal folk left scrapping for crumbs.

Insightful post.

Think about those to whom this government is beholden. There will be no real effort to relieve those affected. They will be expected to "go home to their farms".

We are in the middle of a drought there is no work, gainful employment, or money outside the cities I foresee troubling times ???? The government are not spending money as you need funds to flee with when it all turns turtle.

Something's can't be said here but on social media I am seeing an enormous explosion of fearless anger - with a pretty obvious source for it's target. We are entering revolutionary times for sure.

If it ever happens, it's likely to have the same cause as many others: economic hardship. That is coming for sure.

Unfortunately it can get worse than it is now. People like Hitler got into power during such events. The one that changed west as we know it, the French Revolution, was a complicated and far reaching thing. So was the Arab spring. Perhaps there could be something brewing in the entire SEA.

Here we see the big difference between developing countries like Thaiand and developed countries.

Many Western countries are breaking their budgets to compensate people who are laid off work, whether permanent or temporary, as a result of COVID-19 restrictions. Here most of those who will be sent home will receive not a single baht from the Government, whose generosity so far has extended to give a 3% discount on electricity and water bills. It's surely time to dig into the reserves and help Thai citizens.

And the situation has now been exacerbated with the closure of shopping malls and markets in Bangkok. How are market traders going to make any sort of living and will stores continue to pay their stay-at-home staff? Come on Prayut, you need to help them....and that doesn't mean giving them a 1,000 baht shopping voucher!

You think he's going to give up his submarine money ????

It will be fine, Deputy Anutin said in his interview that Thai people will support Thai People and the Government will support them and that he has a very hard job but he is trusted by his people, although he supports a cabinet reshuffle as a few months already passed since election and I will resign if people want me to but he gives his all everyday......<deleted> does any of that mean? He didn't answer any questions directly and doesn't give a flying duck really as he still has a job! Total Barclays banker.
I won't even get started on the foreigner this, foreigner that, foreigner must do this comments.....the country is ducked!

It will be managed like everything else here: denial, neglect, confusion, misinformation, disinformation, corruption, scapegoating, More neglect. Allowing the problem to wash over the population. Pick up the pieces in the aftermath. Provide false promises and assistance. Ask the survivors to pick themselves up out of the street and move on.

It's not a Democracy. There is no love for the common people.

They never closed markets down, people live day to day outside the cities where the majority are going to be, little point hanging around in the city when they have no work! there not going to intentionally starve people, surely you don't think they would go that far, hungry people will do horrible things!

According to my wife just outside of Buriram city, the local markets where she usually buys food items, cooked food, and vegetables are CLOSED.

If this situation doesnt improve on short notice, I feel a massive land grab by elite and Chinese conglomerates coming. With the circulation of money slowing down , a lot of Thai families will be forced to sell their last remaining assets, their lands and properties. In the worst case scenario, we might even witness a change in foreign ownership policies. I cannot think of another economic kickstarter.

In Calgary, there still is gatherings of up to 50 people allowed, why?

At one party the spokesperson said, well there were some who were from

out of town and even country attending.  Lovely!  Those air travellers may have

been a few of the super spreaders.  There was an Indian Canadian wedding held

in Surrey,  Vanvouver BC, and the same thing was stated,  will these gatherings

lead to even more virus cases?  I think so..

Geezer

If they close all the local market in rural areas people will have no food, there are no Big Stores locally, not an option, most of the rural areas are the same set up.

All the times they commented that they dont depend on tourists

Has this evolved into a Thai Visa fallacy or are there factual statements from government ministers stating this fact?

It's 20 kilometers to the nearest big store from where I live hard to get there on a tractor or bring back enough on a bike
