An 80% mask compliance rate essentially eliminated the influenza outbreak.

Unfortunatly there is very little of that abounding in LOS.

My girlfriend works for the government (accounting), and they made their own masks at work.

As a side note, I went to the bank in a government building in Chiang Mai this morning. All doors except one are close, everybody wears a mask, they check everybody's temperature, and make people wash their hand with gel. Many of the masks were clearly hand made.

Common sense tells you that the N95 mask will protect you and other people around you.

If you wear a common surgical mask, it will protect those around you more than it will protect you ... unless

Everyone else is wearing a surgical mask too.

It's common sense.

masks, schmasks. I've got one of these coming on lazada.

You can still order some on shopee or search there for n95. as an example:

But I give no guarantee of the Quality or whatever.

Hope it helps.

Do you have a English language version in  Shoppee like Lazada and AliExpress.

I could not change the language on the page ?   Thanks

Herd immunity means such a great number of people are infected and immune to the virus that it can not spread any longer.

If herd immunity is the only way to stop the spread of the virus (because governments were unable to isolate their country or subsequently test and isolate the infected) then would it be wrong to wear masks and self isolate, wouldn't it?

As soon as herd immunity is achieved the virus will stop.

So wearing masks could be counter-productive, as could self-isolation.

heard this morning; that in China they are reporting a sudden surge in new infections...

whilst just now on the tellyNews; of a young bloke here, who is a China Wuhan sufferer for a 2nd time round!

So much for the Immunity hopes

I don't believe the masks do much good. They might stop big bogies on the BTS.

I only wear mine to appease the Thais. Last week I got a few dirty looks when I was out shopping without one.

There's collateral advantage to wearing a mask, any mask: people stay aware that situation is not normal and social distancing occurs automatically. Any piece of cloth works. I think the burkha has the same design feature: keeps the suitors away.

Isolated reports of re-infections mean nothing. Those could just be exceptions.

Prof Jon Cohen, emeritus professor of infectious diseases at Brighton and Sussex Medical School, said:

“However, it is very likely, based on other viral infections, that yes, once a person has had the infection they will generally be immune and won’t get it again. There will always be the odd exception, but that is certainly a reasonable expectation.”

Short or no immunity would be catastrophic news. It would move the estimates away from the SEIR model that has herd immunity to continuing death toll year around. I don't believe it at the moment, it's a virus related to existing ones that seem to give some sort of immunity.

during my walk to villa market on sukhumvit near emporium, mask usage was as follows:

1/3 wearing mask

1/3 mask pulled down under chin as they were chatting with friend(s)

1/3 no mask

just a data point from my 30 minutes outside to/from market.

I think that, after tomorrow's announcement, one had better not be caught outside without a mask. I think the suggestion will become a mandate.

This morning, we made a trip to our local fresh market. I saw only one person not wearing a mask. Shoppers and vendors were all wearing them. Everyone passing by, on the street, were also wearing them.

I had 2 people hit "confused" on this post. Give me more info and I'll try to clarify for you ...

Yes smartee, we assumed no kissing or face touching.

We have 6 basic masks here {3 being material with a filter liner} that get gently washed every day

& rinsed with Dettol & hot water then hung in the sun.

They are better than nothing & I do not care what anyone says

No its not, it's wishful thinking - and dangerous wishful thinking at that if it leads to people believing are protected in crowded places when they are not.

... good one, then again the 'common sense' part would actually be spot on if you think about it ...

Alas, not too much of it around as others already mentioned.

Aggravating, isn't it?

I'm staying in Jomtien and today I went to one of the bigger supermarkets. I would guess ~25-30% of the people I met wore masks.
