Walt Disney World remains closed to the public due to the Coronavirus threat on March 23, 2020 in Orlando, Florida. The famous spires of the Magic Kingdom park are seen in the center - this park, one of four at Disney World - attracts some 50,000 visitors each day

Disney World, the happiest place on Earth, has been lying totally deserted for more than a week, losing an estimated $40million every day due to the deadly coronavirus.

Disney World in Orlando was closed on March 15 along with its other flagship theme parks throughout the US and the rest of the world because of COVID-19.

It comes as Florida's latest tally for the deadly disease rose to more than 1,300 infected on Tuesday, including at least 17 deaths.

The Magic Kingdom alone, one of four theme parks at Disney World, along with water parks and hotels, attracts more than 50,000 visitors each day. The price for an anyone over the age of ten for a day pass to visit just one of the theme parks is $170 and for children aged three to nine, the day pass is $116.

Well, USD 40 million/day divided by 50'000 visitors/day = USD 800. Obviously the virus seems to attack mathematic skills somewhere too .........

It's not just visitors' revenue coming in;
but also the maintenance, the salaries of thousands of employees .. and certainly other charges

$20 hot dogs, $10 cokes, $50 souvenirs, $500 rooms... it adds up quickly.

When I see these prices, I still wonder why many here criticize the double pricing in Thailand

Because it is so unfair that Thai people get some special privilege.

They are the only ones who are supposed to be privileged. :dry:

I will only talk about a country I know: France but I think it is the same in a lot of others
Admission to most museums is chargeable and sometimes high to very high prices;
except for public service teachers for whom it is free.
People over 60 or 65 often pay half the price in museums, public transport,etc..
In large companies, in fact those with more than 50 employees, there is a "Works Council" which receives money from the boss and certainly from elsewhere and therefore gives employees of the company preferential rates for the cinema, sports halls, museums, etc.

In fact, there are few French people who have to pay the full price when they want to go to the cinema, the museum or a bunch of paid leisure places while the tourists pay 100% the price.

One can only hope that they remain closed and land rehabilitated back to a "natural" park. I know wishful thinking.
